Came to this party kind of late. . . much good advice offered. I'm glad things turned a corner, and it seems as if you are better prepared to deal with such matters in the future.

CE, bear in mind that a client such as this can hurt your reputation in two ways:

1) His intentions could have gotten "broadcast" more widely and then certain impressions about your own intentions/promiscuity could have gotten out.

2) If he is/wasn't serious about training, then your reputation is on the line, in terms of having a client working with you, but not making progress. You need motivated clients (motivated for physical improvement, not other things).

Best wishes.

Absolutely wrong. Unprofessional, and potentially dangerous to one's reputation, as well as their livelihood.

I can see your point. Sadly I believe I will still get my chance with someone, be it this guy reverting back to his old ways or someone new in the future.

Yeah personal space is something that you can get away with if you are professional. People can sense it if you touch their back to show them an exercise movement or if you touch their back in a suggestive manner.

If I ever need to touch a client, especially one who isn't used to me, I always announce to them that I am going to "touch their back/shoulders/knee/etc" before doing so. It broadcasts to them that it is only for professional reasons, and they also mentally prepare so they aren't being surprised.

I learned the hard way on all these lessons. Trust me... Take down some notes!

I learned this same thing from the USMC and also use it when personal training. I never touch anyone without announcing prior and getting their okay. I think it is just good CYA common sense although probably more for guys than me.

I think any good trainer has to touch a client in order to convey a message. I'm always touching their thighs, ass, back, shoulders, neck..

Hey we're all adults here...I said "buttocks" on another forum and one poster when on and one asking what the heck that even was.

Besides, I could include countless articles and blog posts depicting women as pieces of meat with provocative pics of women almost naked, to affect my professionalism...but I don't think that would work.
