I'm a huge believer in those basic exercises aka "the ones that actually work". I tell people I'll take squats and dips out of your routine and put in easier ones when they stop working.

I think it's important from a business side to keep the client happy - so is their perceived value of the session is very high - Like John said, sometimes it may be necessary to "give them what what want" sometimes if you believe it's adding value - This lets you continue training your client regularly, getting them results, and keeping them happy -
