I have been taking my staff through the entire course of the "grasso method"... The book, the work book, the DVDs, everything.
I know it is meant for kids, but I have to tell you that it is GOLD for learning how to build an effective program for anyone.
I really love his philosophy, his methods, and his understanding of the psychology of youth fitness and athletics. You are on a good track with this cert.
I also think it is a HUGE untapped market. One that I hope to tap into once we're all done with this course.
You may want to contact Robert Belley. I know that he was the very first person certified through Grasso's IYCA program. Rob has written articles for me and is an AWESOME trainer in the MA area.
Interesting. I was looking at the ISSA's add-on for youth fitness if I decided to go with them at some point, but this looks to be just a straight cert without a pre-requisite affiliation. Thanks for the heads-up.
EDIT: I wonder how this would stack with a boot camp. Ya know, get the moms in there for BC, and oh by the way, we offer youth conditioning as well. Hmmm...

I tend to agree with that, especially with regards to Grasso's methods which involve mastering specific skills that improve coordination, spacial awareness, and balance before starting on strength and specificity.
There are some differences though... Children don't have mature nervous systems, so it is probably more important to really take time mastering foundational stuff (years).
At this point every trainer in my facility uses this method though, blocking out their client's programs in four month increments. More importantly, they don't get in a hurry to make progress at the expense of the long term success of the client. Communication is HUGE using this method though. Clients can be impatient, and like most of the population, they equate being tired at the end of the workout with a successful workout.
