Default Concerns with NFPT

After weeks of research, I decided to go with NFPT to try to get my cert. for personal training, but now I've read some message boards where people are saying that a lot of things on that exam is not covered in their manuals/materials that they send you. I've already enrolled and I'm just waiting for my stuff to arrive from them. I was hoping to get through it in 2 months, but not sure if this is going to be possible if I have to figure things out on my own.

Does anyone know if this is true? I'm kinda freaked out about this.

The manual covers most of what is on the test, but NO certification is going to have all the answers in a manual. There are some things that as a trainer you should know. For example, you won't find an anatomy chart in the manual, but you better damn well know your muscles and bones because you will be asked.

2 months is plenty of time. Don't freak. Take a deep breath, and don't limit yourself to just that manual for becoming a well-rounded trainer. I'm NFPT, but I disagree with many things about their philosophy, mostly because they are very body-building oriented, and I am more functional-oriented.

Read through the manual and come back into this thread with questions. I can tell you that you really need to pay close attention to the chapters on physiology. Most of the people that I have seen fail this test did poorly on those questions.

Thank you Jean-Paul! I am currently drilling in my head the body systems. I'm not sure how much I should know on this, but I figured a basic overall over them wouoldn't hurt.

I will definitely be checking back and asking you questions if you don't mind. I'd love to pass on the first try!! Especially since I have upcoming knee surgery in November and would just like to get it all over with before then.

Thanks again!!

I teach locally for the WITS and this is the same concern alot of students I teach bring up. Most exams (from any certfiication) will never be able to cover the entire curriculum. So figuring things up on your own is not an entirely bad thing as it will better prepare you once you get your feet wet in the profession.

Well I am glad that I'm not the only one who has concerns over this. I know I don't want to waste the money to re-test! I am pretty fortunate to already be employed by a fitness gym and they also do physical and occupational therapy as well. They have therapists for their patients, but noone certified in personal training. I'll be the first. That makes me feel some pressure as well.

Hey man, I just got through taking my NFPT test. Yes the manuals didn't cover ALL the stuff the test covers but if you have your basics down and somewhat of an understanding of what takes places when you exercise then I believe you will do great. JP gave me a great site to get all your Articulations down before I took the test:
ExRx Articulations
Its a great site and gives you a greater understanding of movement than the manual gives you. Just study your ass off bro and I am sure will do just fine. Good Luck!

well not for sure yet.... unfortunately, with my awesome luck, I have not received my score yet. I called NFPT last friday and they informed me that their grading company in FL has shut down and won't be up and running until this thursday..... so this wednesday is the third week I have yet to find out what my official grade is and its KILLING ME! haha but I am for sure that I passed......I just don't know how high of a grade I got! haha
