Default Chek COurses

Hi all

I have been looking at some courses by Paul Chek, some of them look very interesting if they are what they say on the tin.

Just wondering if anyone out there has done any Chek courses and what they thought, worth the money or not?

I haven't done a course, but I'm not the biggest fan and probably would not pursue a certification with him.

I disagree with a lot of his philosophy for one thing. He contends that you can increase one's balance on the ground by teaching them to stabilize in an unstable surface. At one time I agreed with him, but as my studies went deeper I learned the folly in my (and his) ways.

Also, I feel like he gets a little "out there" with some of the spirituality of training... May be good for some, but not what I'm looking for in a cert program that's going to give me credibility. Seems a little cultish to me.

I still respect Chek... He was the first trainer I encountered who started me down the functional training path, and he has been quite prolific. I have nothing but respect for him, but I just personally don't recommend his courses.

Chek is definitely in a league of his own. A lot of his stuff will make your head tilt, but he has a knack for out referencing just about anyone. Also, his knowledge on human anatomy amazes me. I'm not sure if has updated his certs at all. Last time I checked (last year) its still pretty much the same material.

Why have you chosen the Chek route? Like JP stated they get a bit on the spiritual side. I would say pretty cult like. Also, the man's stuff ain't cheap.

I have two amigos that went pretty far and trained under the man himself. One is now a level four practitioner and the other went back to his CSCS roots.

I think if you choose to do his stuff for strength and conditioning, you should just go Poliquin. He pulls a lot of reference from him.

I think if you are looking for something profitable from him, his golf certs are the best I have seen and look nice in a frame on the wall.

Depends on what you are trying to get out of it. Definitely an interesting route.

If you want a golf conditioning cert get one from Motion DNA. You will be able to give a golfer some REAL useful info, rather than getting them to swing while balancing on a stability ball.

Pretty much what Ty said.

Cheers for that,

Chek certifications are relatively new here in the UK, some of the stuff seemed interesting. But I had caught on to some of his spiritual stuff, after having a flick through one of his books. Mainly I am looking to plan my CPD from 2009, so looking at a few options as Chek was newish I thought I would investigate it a little further.

Just really seeing what the view of the courses were in the US as he has been operating there for a lot longer.
