"over $1,396 worth of 'ethical bribes'"
"well over $1,787 worth of free bonuses"
-or-
"Over $2,000 in Bonuses"
Having read as much of the ad as I could, I'd say the answer is a big "Yes".

WARNING: The consumption of alcohol may create the illusion that you are tougher,
smarter, faster and better looking than most people.
1)
Most marketing techniques (e.g. build a sense of urgency, offer bonuses) appear as an attempt to "put one over" on the consumer (coming soon, this offer won't last, what would you pay?, testimonials from goodness-knows-who, bonuses worth $367).
As consumers grow weary of these ploys and are actively turned off from offers that blatantly feature them, what do you see as the future of selling in this market?
2) How is your marketing strategy different when the product is face-to-face training services? What is the most cost-effective way to generate new business on-ground rather than in the virtual world? Are some channels more effective than others in the personal training/training gym market? What are the basic principles to use in selling personal services in this market?
Well, I just got off the phone with Ryan. Whew! I think we talked for an hour and a half!
It was a lot of fun though. I will put it up as soon as I can so you can all hear it.
I asked him most of the questions in some form or another.
If you are hoping to hear him get skewered alive you won't get what you want to hear though. I'm a nice guy, he's a nice guy, and I happen to personally like him quite a bit, so I don't pin him down and ask him why he sucks or whether or not he has stopped beating up elderly women.
Another thing you need to know is that I am not a professional interviewer. We were literally all over the map. I'm ADD as can be and he has a permanent IV caffeine drip, so we just went where the discussion wanted to flow, and it doesn't follow any pre-organized course. Outside the questions that you all posted I must have asked him dozens of marketing questions (gotta get all the free advice I can get, you know). I can tell you this... His success was no accident.
I think at the end of the interview though you will all have a much better understanding of Ryan. Whether or not it will change or affirm your opinions about him... I have no idea. It was a lot of fun though, and Ryan was very generous with his time for this. Hopefully you will all enjoy it. If you don't, well, at least it was free!

No... The quality was really crappy since I was on a cell phone. I am buying a Skype headset (as he just did) and we are going to re-do it. Sorry guys.
Thanks Jp, listened this morning. Interesting to hear he's doing his bootcamp via the internet this year.

Galya, I actually really appreciate you saying that considering how NON-professional I really am. I feel like all I do is stutter and stammer.
Ryan makes it easy though because he's as talkative as me so he doesn't let it get boring. I'd actually enjoy doing more of those, but I need to figure out a way to make the conversations less than 10 minutes long. I know that I'm so ADD I can't even listen to podcasted fitness shows. I'll bet I'm not the only one.

You are NOT the only one! I dislike that this has become a new way to get info out. I'd much, much rather read. But I did make a point to listen to this interview and I agree with Galya that you did a very good job. Ryan is articulate and enthusiastic. He's the epitome of the entrepreneurial spirit. I enjoyed the interview.
I'm already pretty high energy, so if you can get me inspired/energized, you're quite possibly not human, and Ryan manages to get me jumping out of my seat.
I wonder if I asked all the questions that people wanted answered? I felt like in some cases I dug pretty deep.
There were a few gems in my mind upon my first time hearing as a listener... I thought it was interesting to note that even he himself is not a big fan of the long letter pages, and I also really liked his answer as to why he uses them, and how he even decides which marketing method to use.
The key is knowing who you are selling to, and then TESTING your market. Also, if you're making a video for noobs, not trainers, you don't worry about what other trainers think (within reason... Obviously it needs to be good still).
I actually came away with a lot of useful information from that.
JP, just listened to this today (first day in a while without little ones in the car clamboring for Raffi!) ... thought it was great. Ryan comes off as a smart approachable guy who is very charismatic. He definitely gave some good pointers. I liked his thoughts on finding out what is DIFFERENT that you offer ... what makes you unique? And then knowing who you are marketing to and testing that market. And doing what works. If the long letter doesn't work, don't do it. But if what you ARE doing isn't working, and you haven't tried the long letter, then don't knock it until you've tried it!
Good stuff ... thanks for putting it together!

Hey guys, I'm getting ready to take down the Ryan Lee Interview link on the side bar, and I may eventually move that interview to a different page, so download while you can if you haven't had a chance to listen to it.
