31/07/08 Thursday

Bench Press
20kg x 10
65kg x 6
85kg x 3
105kg x 1 Paused PR
95kg x 6(3 sets) PR

3-Board Press
110kg x 6(3 sets) PR

NG Lat Pulldown
140lbs x 12(2 sets)
140lbs x 8

Decline Sit-up
BW x 12(2 sets)

Side Bends
60lbs x 12(2 sets)

Comments:
-Oh Noes!!! I trained 3 days in a row and only allowed 2 days for my chesticles to recover! I'm going to overtrain arghhhh!!!!!!
-But I hit some good PR's anyway, strange...
-95kg was my max in January, I murdered it tonight for 6 reps easy
-PR on the boards was good too, I really need to be pushing the board presses heavy, which is something I didn't do enough before my last comp. This should help me hit a much better bench this time around.

Overtraining your chesticles? Try squatting 8 days a week and see how that makes your legs feel. Mate.

05/08/08 Tuesday

Speed Bench Press(3 bands)

20kg x 10 no bands
20kg x 6
45kg x 3(4 sets)
45kg x 3(4 sets) - close grip

CG Board Press(2 boards)

85kg x 4
107.5kg x 4(4 sets) PR

H-Roll
13kg x 6(4 sets)

Rope Triceps Pushdown

70lbs x 8(2 sets)
60lbs x 8

Hammer Curls

50lbs x 6(3 sets)

Comments:

-Was pushing it today with the board presses, getting close to my limit. With 4 more tuesday sessions, will have to form a new plan for these. This may be too-heavy too-early.
-Also, a training partner of mine who thinks he can do everything I can do, proved for the second week in a row, that he cannot. Picks the same working sets weight as me, and fails on 3 reps - every set... Truthfully, I am enjoying it Looks like he isn't good enough to hang with me

Okay, new plan for board pressing.

I do 2-board with a close grip on Tuesdays. I do 3-board with a normal(wide) grip on Fridays.

This tuesday's 107.5kg for 4's was getting pretty close to my limit, so in order for me to be able to keep going up without failing reps for the remaining 4 weeks, I'll need to change something. This week is week 5, so here's the plan for next week onwards:

Week 4: Three sets of heavy doubles(112.5kg)
Week 3: Two sets of heavy doubles(117.5kg)
Week 2: Light triples for speed(75-85)
Week 1: Light triples for speed(75-85)

This is the plan for Tuesdays, which will save me a bit when I am going really heavy on full range benching, and still heavy on 3 board on fridays in the last 2 weeks.

This Fridays 3-Board Pressing I've planned to do 115kg for 4x4. I know I can do this for sure, and it should be much more comfortable than Tuesdays CG 2-Boards. I will wait and see what happens on Friday before deciding if I need to back off the week after or not, but I will be going very heavy on these in the final 2 weeks for sure. The problem with these is that I didn't push them hard enough last time, so I'm not sure of what I'm capable of for say a max double. I should finish up on something like 125kg for a double I'm guessing though.

06/08/08 Wednesday

Deadlift
---suit on(fusion)---
65kg x 6
110kg x 4
---straps up(fuck yeah!)---
155kg x 2
175kg x 1
---straps down, belt on---
172.5kg x 6(3 sets) PR

Speed Squat(suit bottoms)
65kg x 3
90kg x 3(8 sets) PR

Comments:

-Tried a size 32 inzer fusion today, which was a bit loose
-I couldn't get my belt on as tight, as the suit was bunching up a bit at the waist, belt was really killing me, so I had to loosen it one notch
-Straps up, and BAM! JUST LIKE THAT! I actually felt a fair bit of support at the bottom! And this is in a size 32, when I should probably be in a 30.
-This suit is much better than the HardCore for deadlifting, the straps tighten up at the bottom and are awesome. I will buy a size 30 for november
-Forgot to bring shorts, so I did speed squats in the suit bottoms
-Going to pickup a size 40 centurion tomorrow from a training partner, to test out on Sunday, if it goes well I should order a size 38 on monday, maybe a 36 for my upcoming competition.

Two things:

1. I just looked in the mirror, and... I finally burst a few blood vessels on my face! YEAAHHH!!! Red dots all around the place on my face, I look fucked up, muhahahha

2. Just watched Power Unlimited, the powerlifting movie. It was pretty decent actually. A few things on this. Becca Swanson - WHAT THE FUCK, steroid jaw much? Scott Mendelsons said "Eating, I hate it" hahahahhaa, that's awesome!

I think I just liked it because I like anything powerlifting, even if it was mostly you un-tested folk... But shit, that jaw... is a man's jaw...

Bigger Stronger Faster was 1000 times better though!

Currently watching a powerlifting comp on dvd, it's pretty awesome as i can fast forward and skip all the boring bits

anyone could enter the ipf on testosterone suspension stopped about 3 days out, you could continue growth hormone and insulin right through the contest, too

I guess 'tested' does make it sound nice though.

The IPF don't claim to be drug free. And you have to admit, the drug testing does do something. It lowers the numbers alot. USPF numbers are alot higher with almost identical rules, apart form not testing. It also deters alot of people who don't know enough to beat the system.

You seem pretty against testing... Hrmmmmm...

I am against testing, because its useless and a waste of a paying federation members money.

CPU (ipf) in canada is spending $14,000 on drug testing this year. They could run a fantastic meet with prize money, but instead they are going to put all this money into 'testing' which im not convinced the ipf is serious about (see jaroslaw o (sp?))

there's enough pling feds where it shouldn't matter if they test or not.

if you don't wanna be tested, go to a different fed. In strongman, there's no testing and no different feds. A lot of the LW guys don't use, although some do. When you get into the HWs, the game changes. There's no absolutes though.

Pfister tried to put on a drug tested show where the winner got a bid to worlds, but it ended up being canceled.

Ya, the Deez made a turn around. Guy's actually a pretty decent lifter last I saw.

His early stuff is still classic though.

not really.

all he did was fund his first competition. he didn't get any actual training w/ marunde.

plus, i remember DW was very cocky after marunde did this, and it was something to the effect of him complaining about JM's parents being late to pick him up or something like that. Not really sure, but i remember that he was pretty cocky, but as far as i know, there was no real feelings of hate or anything later.

edit: check this out:

of course, these are old posts now. Hopefully he's changed his attitude at the same time he changed his form

10/08/08 Sunday

Squat
---suit bottoms on(40 centurion)---
65kg x 6
---straps up---
110kg x 4
---Suit on(31 Hardcore), straps up---
140kg x 2
160kg x 1
---straps down, belt on---
147.5kg x 6(3 sets) PR

Overhead Press
65kg x 3
70kg x 3 PR
75kg x 3 PR

Pendlay Row

65kg x 6
75kg x 6
85kg x 6(2 sets)

Comments:

-Okay, the 40 centurion was SUPER LOOSE, pretty huge suit! My training partner is a fat bastard! It's pretty tight on him!
-Centurion gave me barely anything as it was so loose, I am ordering a size 36 as soon as I can.
-Squats were pretty good, apparently some were a bit high, which is unusual for me! Dropping to 4's next week, straps up for all sets
-OH pressing was good too, I'm happy with 75x3. This is the first time I have gone over 65kg for overheads. Will work up to a heavy single next week, hopefully 85-90kg, then drop pressing until after the meet.
-Pretty good overhead strength for somebody who doesn't train it much I think.
-no stock on size 36 centurions until next week I found out from lifting large, so I might only get 3 training sessions in the suit before the meet, which kinda sucks
-Getting into a shirt next week, 42 f6

Have you considered just bringing your grip out a little bit on the presses? I think it would make sense to do this closer to a contest.
