11/07/09 Saturday

Bench Press 40 f6
65kg x 3
95kg x 2
110kg x 1
125kg x 2
140kg x 2(2 sets) PR paused first rep

3-Book Press 40 f6
160kg x 3 PR

NG Lat Pulldown
160lbs x lots
180lbs x 6
160lbs x 10

Rope Face Pulls
70lbs x 15
80lbs x 15(2 sets)

Hammer Curls
20kg x 10(3 sets)

Comment:
-First set of 140 was decent, although not as smooth as I'd like, could have had better technique there
-Second set was pretty shitty missgroove, but grinded it up anyway.
-Will open on 140, then go to 147.5, and I'll pick the 3rd on the day.

12/07/09 Sunday

Squat 36 centurion
20kg x 6
---suit bottoms on---
65kg x 6
110kg x 2
---straps up---
155kg x 2
185kg x 1
---wraps + belt---
210kg x 1
225kg x 2 PR

Comments:
-225kg wasn't the best set, didn't groove it right
-Felt pretty light though, and came up easy enough even with the missgroove. Will open on 225kg, then jump to 240kg for the second.
-All training is pretty much done now for nationals, now just gotta make weight.

Simon, dood, how's it going? I finally had a chance to sorta catch up on your log, and as usual, looks great. Since I'm lazy, though, I didn't look hard enough to find out what weight class you're dieting for...?

LOL

I went from about 86.6kg on the Sunday, to 82.75kg the Friday morning, FUCK! So I went straight to McDonalds, and then had 2 dinners and some chocolate.

Woke up saturday at 83.3kg, had a footlong sub and some cookies, then Sauna's off 1kg and weighed in at 82.3kg, then slammed around 2L of water and some food.

Cutting weight, as always was way easier than I expected, I'm going to be making the cut from 88kg to 82.5kg in 6 days for my next meet

2009 Australian National Championships(IPF)

Squats:

225kg - easy, 3 whites

240kg - 3 whites. 2.5kg PR
I unracked badly and stood for like 5 secs trying to get the weight off my toes, I couldn't, so I squatted it anyway while being off balance. - Also, I think I might not have done up the lever on my belt for this attempt... Felt light, went up okay, had a bit of a sticking point, which was just me regaining balance to lockout.

245kg - 3 whites. 7.5kg PR
I ran/bounced up to the platform and got to the bar with like 10 secs on the clock lol! Was better balanced than the last one, but still maybe 95% in the groove, not perfect. Felt light and went up fine, small sticking point then slammed it up. I think I had 250kg in me for sure, but after the slightly dodgy 240kg we decided to play it safe with a 7.5kg PR.

Benches:

140kg - 3 whites.
Pretty easy, was a bit off balance as I took the handout too early, setup wasn't perfect.

147.5kg - miss
Took the handout too early, let it free fall, couldn't lock it out

147.5kg - miss
Better setup, but just couldn't lock it out. Damn!

Deads:

245kg - 3 whites.
Pretty easy, would have liked more speed off the floor though.

252.5kg - 3 whites. 7.5kg PR
Not too bad, a lil left in the tank still, but kinda hard.

257.5kg - miss, commonwealth junior record attempt
Got to above knees, held it there for like 10 secs lol, couldn't lock it out!

Total: 637.5kg 15kg PR

Wilks: 427.6988

Place: 2nd, Silver medal.

Pretty decent meet, very happy with my squats, I'll have to check the video if I used my belt for my 240kg or not lol. Very strong on squats.

Bench wasn't there today, oh well, the weight cut? I'll have a crack at 147.5kg again in november and will get it.

Deads went well, but I wasn't as strong as I would have liked. I won't miss that record again. I didn't feel as strong as I did in training, but was lighter ofcourse.

665kg is the goal for my next meet on nov 28, an elite II total in my fed at 82.5kg.

Gold won with 255/147.5/260 = 662.5kg

So I was 25kg off. I should have equalled that bench, and came 5kgs closer on the squat though, potentially.

There's a comp DVD, my training partner was in my session, and he bought one, so it should have my lifts on it. Will get it in a couple of weeks.

Nice lifts Simon.

Play around with your shirt, I'm sure you can get more out of it.

I'm planning to save up like 500 and get a new shirt(and suit and wraps and everything) before next years nationals, 1 size smaller, and use my current shirt as a training shirt. Until then I don't think there's much I can do except get stronger, work on lockout etc.

Using the same shirt in training at 86.6kg(maybe as high as 88kg next time) and then again in comp where I'm probably under 84 even after I load up on fluids probably isn't ideal, I need a tight shirt that I use only in the meet, and maybe 1 training session.

Oh yeah, they tested me again, urine only this time.

Comp finished 1st day at close to 11pm. I gave a sample, it wasn't good enough(too dilute), so I gave another and another. Ended up giving them three samples of 170ml or so LOL Got out of there at 12.30am, went to mcdonalds and smashed 2600 calories or so

I just took a couple of measurements to see how my body changed dropping those few kgs last week. Arm measurements are the same, about 15.5" on the right side, bit less on the left. Waist 31.25", over an inch less than it was before, I'm noticeably leaner and more vascular now.

I'm aiming to build up to 88kg this time, cut down to 82.5kg again, and keep doing this every comp. I should be pretty damn lean after doing this another 3 times I'd say lol and without sacrificing any strength either(unless I wanted to move up a weight class).

I have no clue why after a meet where your bench actually went down, you do the same bench cycle. more time in shirt, more lockout workout, shirted boards, etc. I would be very surprised if this didn't get you to 170kg by your next meet. Shirts are great these days, take advantage of it.

Hmmmm, well I think I was stronger in training than last time - easy doubles on 140kg, compared to shitty singles, just I cut a bit too much weight(managed to bring it back up the day before though, but still not ideal).

I'm thinking I might change the bench sessions on 5 and 12 Sep to be shirted? doubles with 132.5 and 142.5 for each of the weeks, and maybe singles too. What do you think?

I'm still not convinced that shirted book work is that useful, but maybe in these 2 sessions I'll give that a go just to feel some heavy weights.

Keep in mind, my bench shirt is 1 size too big for me, I'm saving up for new equipment to use this time next year.

anything to get you in your shirt more is going to be useful to you.

I think shirted boards are very usefull. You can't solely do them, but doing a few 2 boards after you are done your main bench work is going to get you used to heavier weights and improve your lockout. Shirted boards are also alot easier on me i find, touching weights is where the pressure builds up and things start to hurt.

Yeah I might aswell give it a shot, while I'm in the shirt allready.

I think the reason my bench was shit though was because I cut too much weight, I should have dieted less, and sauna'd more. I lost a bit of mass in the pecs i can see.

Time to build it back up now over the next 17 weeks, to 88kg
