Got my rehbands today, blue knee sleeves, and the warming pants!

Just tried them on, they fit perfect. I look forward to squatting with them on Sunday I sweated up a bit only having them on for a couple of minutes, even though the warming pants are kinda thin, they seem to work really well - they are orange on the inside which is kinda random.

yea, the pants are thin, but work awesome. LMK how you think they work.

about the orange... the rehband belts are blue with black poke-a-dots on the back. So, not nearly as random as orange.

I don't do rack pulls, and if I do, I'll be wearing some shorts over them

on the rehband site, one is under "basic" line and ones under "core" which is supposed to be better, targeted at athletes.

What's the reasoning behind doing the single on the DL, then 4 sets afterwards?

Well when my sets are not very heavy(50% in this case) I'll do a heavier single before the sets, so I can handle some heavier weight(still only 63%) each week, without impacting recovery much.

When my sets get over 90%, I usually don't do a heavier single before the sets.

Also, if I do a heavier single, and then get into the set, my body would be prepared for a heavier weight, and the sets feel light-er.

i do this as well. It's not so much of a shock on your body.

and it is what you should have done on the bench rather than making a 30lb pr jump

You can't do a heavier single, and then go for a PR

And the 30lb jump from my last warmup, I was only going for a 5kg PR. So that figure doesn't matter hah/

10/01/09 Saturday

Bench Press

20kg x 10
65kg x 6
75kg x 6(4 sets)

2-Book Press

95kg x 6(2 sets)

Lat Pulldown

120lbs x 20(2 sets)

Rope Face Pulls

50lbs x 12(3 sets)

Hammer Curls
40lbs x 8(3 sets)

Comments:

-Left pec/delt area is very slightly sore, while full ROM benching. I'm hoping this will sort itself out in the next few weeks of going light, it's fine on book presses
-First time trying face pulls, I can see why they are so popular now, will make them a regular

Yes, but I don't see this as a bad thing, allows me to be more upright. I always hear "break at the hips first", but have never heard any rational thought behind it, other than "powerlifters should squat wide in chucks and sit back"...

Different type of squat imo.

hamstrings/glutes are much stronger then quads is the basis behind it.

not to mention shorter ROM and less chance for injury. Ive seen 2 knee blowouts at meets during squats, both where dive bombing squatters who broke with the knees. At 400lbs, fine, but at 800, different story.

You can't break with the hips first if you squat the way Simon does. If he sits back with a close stance he'll have to bring his knees forward after he already sat back (he'll almost be at parallel and he'll let his knees slide forward) which is a very bad thing.

Why do ipf guys squat so differently than guys in other feds? Close stance, oly shoes? Because we have to go a couple inches lower we should change our form that much? I don't get it.
That said it's obviously working for him.

Alot dont squat much differently. look at someone like Wade Hooper.

The depth is not all that much different. Yes, some of the big all time WR lifts, the judges have made some bad calls, but at a GPC meet the depth is pretty close (actually the depth in the gpc and uspf is the same).

Actually the guys at my last competition I'm pretty sure all squatted wide. I think I was talking about all the videos I've seen online.

Matthew's right, its pretty much impossible to break with the hips the way I squat, it would throw everything off.

Heaps of guys squat wide in IPF, but not as wide as some multi-ply feds. But then again the best IPF squatter ever squatted pretty narrow(Kirk), Olech squats narrow too. It's a mixture, different people are stronger in different styles.
