Caution - a very detailed meet report! long post! *** all national records are IPF, Sub junior(under 18), 82,5kg class
It was a great day, here's how I did:
Weighed in at: 81.75kg
Opening Squat [ o o o ]
205kg - smoked
2 whites, 1 red for depth - wilks called depth from the front lol...
Second Squat [ o o o ]
213.5kg - national record, smoked8.5kg PR
2 whites, 1 red for unlocking the knees a bit, then locking them, and then squatting(technicality, hard to explain lol) - should have been a failed lift, i got lucky!
Third Squat [ o o o ]
220kg - national record attempt, got the absolute perfect groove, it flew up like it was nothing, just short on depth though! much easier than 1st and 2nd attempts! My result in the squat is not telling of my actual strength increase, bit disappointing, but still got the record.
1 white, 2 reds for depth
Opening Bench [ o o o ]
130kg - pressed it out, but...
3 reds(I think) - downward movement of the bar, just fucked up rep in general
Second Bench [ o o o ]
130kg - smoked 10kg PR
3 whites, good groove, smoked it easy
Third Bench [ o o o ]
137.5kg - fucked
3 reds - didn't press it out. Lowered it fast, but bar was still moving around when it touched my chest, causing the referee to hold me on the chest for ages(until the bar was still), pressed it up but couldn't lock it out. Grooved well, this would be easy, as I have doubled 135kg
Benches were kinda shit, 10kg comp PR still, but I know I have 140 in me if I do it right, I just narrowly missed out on a 300 pound bench! fuck!!! The bench just isn't my lift haha
but things got better:
Opening Deadlift [ o o o ]
210kg - smoked
3 whites - not much to say here, looked like a speed weight
Second Deadlift [ o o o ]
225kg - smoked 10kg PR
3 whites - pretty much the same as the first one lol
By this point we were planning a 235kg deadlift(my goal was 230 today) for a good PB, but then I carelessly mentioned that the current record was 240kg, my coach told me that I would get it, and that I should go for it(he later said that I really didn't have a choice, he was going to tell them 241 anyway ) - I wasn't so sure, but I decided to go for it.
Third Deadlift [ o o o ]
241kg - national record! smoked!26kg PR
3 whites - Awesome lift, it was actually not that hard lol, I was thinking it could have been a miss-load LOL It was slower than my previous deadlifts, but pretty much a perfect rep with no sticking point
I'm really thankful that my coach made that decision for me. If he wasn't there, I would have just ended up with a super easy 235kg deadlift. This really made my day, coming in expecting 230kg LOL
Total:
584.5kg - national record! 44.5kg PR
So I beat the national squat record by 1kg, and national deadlift record by 1kg, and the total record by 34.5kgs. The deadlift and total record previously held by the countries now best lifter for about 4 years running(and probably the next 4 years too), the unstoppable Richard Hozjan. So some very good records to beat, those two had stood since 2001.
The bench press record(150kg) holder in my class was there today, I found out he wears a loose 44 shirt, and can bench about 130kg raw! I am seriously fucked there, lucky I'm far ahead on the squat and dead! But the point is, right before my last deadlift, this guy says to me "Good luck man, I hope you get it", which is just awesome sportsmanship, real stand up guy! I didn't realise it was him that said it until a few seconds later(I was pretty intensely focused on my lift).
Oh yeah, and I won my weight class easily. Wilks created an award for me on the spot LOL, I got "best junior lifter" and a trophy haha, at a competition which was just going to have the open category! I think I deprived the bench presser of his "best lifter" trophy LOLZZZZ
That last deadlift was the most satisfying thing ever. A very eventful day, with the lifting, and everything else, well, mainly just the story in my next post(off topic).
Now to just plug a few numbers in, and plan out my next training cycle, and re-assess my goals. I have the records, now I just need to make them higher
A lifter who was lifting today decided to tell us he was defecting, right after dinner, right after my coach had helped him out the entire day, right after my coach had given him 20 bucks for petrol(he forgot his wallet), right after my coach paid for his dinner... Okay, you get the point, I won't say any more about that, but trust me, it was pretty fucked... guy lives on another planet
Me and another club member had predicted this within the 1st 2 weeks he came in, but the timing, the manner, shit that totally blew me away. It was incredibly funny, but also probably the rudest thing I have ever seen, I think my coach nearly killed him.
I think pretty much all of us were relieved(lol, kinda cruel, especially the girls were haha), and pretty happy that he had left, but in disbelief of how he had done it. Funny thing is, it would not have crossed his mind at all that what he did would have offended my coach and the club at all. I've always been nice to him though, and tried to help him hah But man now I just feel sorry for him.
You are now officially a rock star. Congratulations!
Yay rock star! Thanks!

Thanks,
Yep, 250kg is the goal for november, I can't expect too much more with only 9 weeks of training lol, and a 26kg increase will be hard to repeat!
Looks like me and a training partner will both hit triple bodyweight in the same comp in november! I'll be at 247.5@82.5, he will be at 270@90, we are both within 10kgs!
I have my powerlifting calendar plannet out pretty well now:
November 2008 - Local Competition
-Break my records again, make them as high as possible, 230/150/250 is the goal.
February 2009 - Local Competition
-will lift as a 90kg lifter in this meet only, just a practice comp, and I'll then have rankings in the 82's and 90's
April 2009 - Junior Nationals
-I should win haha
July 2009 - Open Nationals
-I should get 2nd haha
-Goal is to total 665kg to qualify for the open worlds, and total EII(Elite II)
I will do one more comp in 2009, it may be a local comp, or a worlds depending on money and what I qualify for.
I don't think anyone took video for this comp, but there was a lil' fat kid running around with a camera, so I'll try and track him down lol I would love a picture of my final deadlift, and a squatting picture too.
I'm cutting to 82.5kg for nationals haha, read the post. 90kg for one comp only, meaning I' just not going to bother to cut down for the first comp of the year, so I can get rankings in 2 weight classes
Next training cycle drawn up, the deadlift numbers are insane, as I got a 26kg PR, I'm going to be doing like 20kgs more for reps! Might have to lower some of these numbers, we shall see! This is just a guide anyway.
A 200kg deadlift is only 83% now rofl, it's a babies weight!

I have a copy of the updated records sheet. I'm going to make sure my training partner puts them on the Powerlifting Australia website ASAP hah! The records keeper also sent out my records certificates today, all this done in less than 12 hours of emailing him! And within a couple hours of him waking up! Top guy, great that he got all this done so fast.
The thing I love about my training, is that the last thing I ever deadlifted before the comp was 217.5kg x 2, and then I went on the pull 241kg. I love it how that works.
