I'm with Greg on this one. It is very interesting to see the learning process as your lifts improve. And I think anyone interested in Olympic lifts could learn a lot from your videos and Manny's advice to you.
Obviously, I don't know what I am seeing, but it is interesting to watch you learn and improve through this.

Nice job on the squats!
Thank ya, thank ya. I'm trying!
Today:
Hang snatches 45x3,55x3,65x3x2easy
Hang cleans + 1 jerk 45x3,55x3,65x2x3,75x2,80x2x1felt like I was using my mothereffing arms so....
Rack pull + shrugs snatch grip then clean grip: 45x3 of each, 65x3-5 of each.I felt the difference but now need to translate that into the real deal. Grrrr.
Jerks behind head 45x3,65x3,75x2,85x2,90x2x1 these are continuing to increase. No problem at all. I am a little more wobbly since I'm trying to get under it more with the back leg bending, but otherwise solid. In fact, I'm jerking so hard that it sort of hurts my shoulder--it's like I could handle another 15-20 lbs with the same force, if that makes sense? I think I'm jerking my arms UP harder and faster than I have to to catch it since the weight isn't that heavy...?
OHS 50x3,60x3,70x3,80x2x3 (+5) Could have done 85-90 but I was getting a little tired so next week.
I'm no Oly coach but the most common mistake I see with clients is too much arms. Oftentimes if technique is OK I'll up the weight to a load forcing them to pull correctly, but obviously for you Manny's advice is more appropriate.
I believe it was Verkhoshansky that said any bend in the arms equals a possible 20% reduction in power, so how's that for motivation.
Looking good Tina. Impressive all around.

When you are Beaumont at the end of the month want to try and get together???
I'm not going to the Summit since we're going to be smack in the middle of a big application rollout for work.

Sure, that sounds great! My stepkid graduates on the 30th, but I think I can con hubby into a lunch date on the 31st? I'm leaving on the 1st in the morning, so.... let me know if that works and we'll exchange the nitty gritty stuff via email.

That should work. Maybe I can drag Bob with me

Well, when are you coming to CT? Tracy and I would be happy to do lunch!!
If and when I go there, you're on!

Today's workout---another one at the local CrossFit facility. Man, I am so glad I didn't even consider the rubber bumpers they use there because they SUCK. However....
Snatch (floor/hang/floor) worked up to 32.5 kg for triples then Snatch worked up to 37.5 kg for singles. I was going to go for 40kg but I was getting tired already. Damned dieting.
Clean + 1 jerk worked up to 40 kg. Forearm hurting at the end, but they were pretty smooth overall.
Clean high pulls worked up to 60kg for doubles
Jerks behind head worked up to 85 lbs for doubles
Front squats--weak as a kitten today. Only worked up to 120 lbs for triples
OHS worked up to 85 (+5) which was juuust heavy enough to cause me to dump it twice. At least I am learning how to get the hell out of the way fast!
And that was an hour and 40 minutes of my Saturday morning. Now I've had a nap, my aquarium is cleaned, and my extra coffee mugs have been packed in a box. Productive day.

Those OHS are super-impressive to me -- they scare the crap out of me.
Now why are your extra coffee mugs packed? Oh, wait, you're moving soon, right?
Do you have a new place picked out yet? With an extra-large garage for your new oly stuff? How long are you in Cali? I can't remember ... and when Cali is over is it back to Texas to be near the hubby?

Julie, I'll be here until 2011 or 2013. It all depends how stupid the people I work for are in 2011... but regardless, I'll have a garage gym.
Today:
Well, I had an entire week off. Not happily, either. I'm a bitch when I don't get to burn off my anger...
Today I lifted w Jim (vid uploading to youtube now):
Snatches: worked up to and stayed at 30kg. Easy.
C&J: worked up to 44kg for 3x1. That's what I did at my competition in March... no problems today. Felt really easy.
Clean grip high pulls: 50kg
Clean grip DL w shrug: worked up to 75kg for doubles. Easy
Jerk balance + jerk: worked up to 40kg. The JBs at 40 were off but the jerks were great.
FS: worked up to 62.5kg for doubles. I then proceeded to dump it and torqued my left hand. Again.
Drop snatch w OHS: only 20 kg. Fun and easy. Fell on my ass a few times.
Military presses to end it, 2x5@20kg
OK, so... Jim and I haven't lifted together in a few weeks due to our schedules. He noted a ginormous improvement in my technique in that time (thanks Manny). I won't see him for another frikkin month now, again from scheduling issues. Sigh.
I don't know crap about Oly stuff but you looked pretty darned solid in the vid. I'm watching and studying you (and Jill) for the day I move up in the world -- no pressure or anything. LOL
Thanks guys! Today's workout was a bit more raggedy.
Yeah, Julie, Jim hadn't seen me for 3 weeks and was like "WTF?!? Where'd the rest of you go?"
I still need to lose a little less than 5 kg to compete at 58 though. Grrr.
Today:
Snatch (below knee, at ghetto gym today): 45x3,55x2,65x3x2 Easy. C&J (BK/hang/BK) 45x2,50x2,55x2,60x2,65x2x3,75x 3,80x2x2 (only did these from BK)
took an extended time to warm up due to left hand issue from this weekend--I actually have a bruise on the dorsal hand which is weird, since the pain was all in my palm! Nothing broken, apparently.
Clean high pulls 95x2,110x3x2
Back squat 115x5,135x4,155x2,165x2x2,115x 10 (that last set? Sick. I about died--I was wiped out by then).
I had planned to try to run on the dreadmill for a bit but it took me an hour to get through this, so nopers. Ran yesterday after MONTHS of no running, and same old shit with the left ankle. I have MRIs scheduled for the 22nd and the 27th, so we'll see. Something is not right in there.
Now I dont know very much about OL but it looks a lot better ( ) Here are a couple of things:
On your start position, raise your hips just a tad higher because your ass is coming up first then youre pushing up with your legs. Raising your hips (slightly) will also help you get your shoulders over the bar. So basically, stop doing this:
And do this (this was your second, and best, snatch. You had no hop, and the position was really good. Notice how your hips are higher and the arms here are at an angle rather than vertical):
You need to make sure you do this on your clean as well because your butt is rising a little to fast relative to your legs.
On the clean, youre still pulling with your arms.
So be more patient, let them hang and stay over the bar longer. Think of your arms as like whips. LIke a whip, your arms will snap back and move you around the bar.
On your jerk, youre not staying upright during the dip and leaning forward. Your just a little soft in the core and thats messing with the bar trajectory.
This is happening because youre probably not bracing and arching hard enough, but it might also be due to the fact that your knees are caving in when you dip:
You can see that your right foot is caving in, and in fact the bar is tilted. This suggest that you might be leaning too much to one side or that your right adductors are too strong or tight, etc. Regardless, you need equal weight distribution and for your right leg to look like your left.
So work on that and re-vid.
