Insert Stupid Snatch Joke Here - Jill's Road To Olympic Glory
Okay, so in honor of our new super cool and badass forum, I'm starting a new log. Yeah, I was gonna call it something like "Come Check Out My Snatch" or "Hey, Wanna See My Snatch?" ... but there are some really stupid log titles around here lately and I didn't want to be just another strange log name.
So basically I'm olympic lifting. I'm not competing, but I am planning on it this year at some point (in the old folks category). I travel a lot for work so my training is a bit inconsistant. Oh, I also just found a local group on lifters so I'll be training with them on Saturdays - with a real coach and everything.

Okay...so let the games begin.
You rock! Go do it girl, I think this is great news! You may even snatch victory from the jaws of defeat!!!
and I didn't want to be just another strange log name.
You sure dodged that bullet
Good luck with your training Jill.

I've made some huge mistakes, but they were necessary, because without them I wouldn't have learned anything.

I don't know. I'm trying recover from my injury first. I'm trying to improve my technique second. I will then set some goals around what kind of weight I want to move. I guess in the short term I would like to hit 55kg on the C&J. I've done 50 before so that should be do-able if I get my technique in order. As for the snatch, I'm thinking 40-45kg. My best right now is 37.5kg.
As soon as I get myself back to 100% (which I'm close to) I'll lay out some more specific goals. Oh, I'm also in the process of losing some fat in preparation for the summer so I'm not expectiing to see any big gains in strength right now. I'm happy to be maintaining as I lose.
No! Not at all. But you know what I mean, some people can pull off a funny snatch joke and it's cool. Then there are some (I won't name names) who just make it creepy. It's all in the delivery.

right. But what? I've been doing some and never noticing a difference. She's doing them and noticing a difference immediately. I want to know her secrets.

My ankle mobility issues are really calf, achilles and ankle related. When I squat down or get in position to clean or snatch the bar, I have trouble getting my knees over my toes. In general, I'm very flexible, but this is one area where I'm deficient. Could be the repeated ankle injuries as a kid or who knows what. So I've been doing the usual ankle mobility drills plus some stretches for the gastroc and soleus. I'm also stretching by squatting down and placing the bar across my knees to get those knees over the toes. Another stretch has me putting one foot on a bench and stretching the knees over toes, while placing weight on the leg via a plate.
Sorry I don't have links to the exercises. Can't find any.
by knees over toes - is that like the ankle exercise where you stand with your toes a few inches from a wall and dip down a little while pushing one knee towards the wall and once it touches you move back a few mm and try it again? That same motion?

I have so many areas of opportunity that I could stretch, activate, and mobilize for the length of my workout.
I do a quick dynamic warmup before I do my workout. The added ankle stuff didn't take much time. I do stretching/moblily work at night before I go to bed. Takes 15 or 20 minutes and (I think) really makes a difference.
