Sadly, there are no 10kg or 15kg ladies bars... Jason has asked them to buy one (more than once) but he's given up hope... sigh... that's why I was using that stupid little aerobic-class bar for my snatches - I can't do 'em with the 20 kg bar yet and we don't have a smaller Oly bar at the gym.

Yes, I have my own bar that I store at the gym. Worth every penny!
Had a good workout today with my coach. We have a meet next Saturday and I'm planning to compete. This will be my first meet since all this carpal tunnel shyte so I'm pretty excited.

Funny ya'll should mention that. I found a 10kg women's bar for about $250 (including shipping), but I was trying to figure out how I'd carry it back and forth all the time. I was thinking of showing it to the owner to see if he'd buy it (but I doubt it!)... hmmmm... Definitely thinking about it! It had a short end so you couldn't put more than one plate plus a clip so that it wouldn't get bent with too much weight (cuz if you can do more weight, use the big bar!).

You don't want a 10kg bar, you want a 15kg bar. The 10kg bar is the kids version. 15kg is for women and the 20kg is for men.

15kg... hmmmm... I'm so wimpy right now, I'm not sure I can do a snatch with 15kg (even without any plates on it!)... maybe I need a kid's bar???
And yeah, as convenient as it might be to store it at the gym, I don't trust them to protect it and keep it for just me. It's way too big and commercial... so I either bring it back and forth with me or convince them to buy one...
At the rec center gym, some idiot has managed to bend every single bar (as well as destroy a few machines). Could he wreck just one bar and then just keep using it? Nooooo... The bars weren't great quality, but they lasted many years before this guy showed up. One staff member suggested it'd be cheaper to buy him a membership at the big-guy's gym rather than replace all the equipment he's wrecked
Bytsi, when my coach trains form, she uses a bar like this (rather than a broomstick or whatever). Of course, you can't load it up or anything, but it works well when perfecting form. We have some really light bumper plates that are the standard sizd, so we are able to put the light bumpers on the light bar and have the bar at the right height for pulling from the ground.
My gym has a small separate area where the platform is and not many people train in there. I store my bar there with a sticky note it that says "DO NOT USE JILL'S BAR!!!! Nobody has dared use it yet.
Trained today despite having everyone sick with some stomach flu at home. Really hoping I don't get it! Dammit!
that's it. Felt weak on squats probably due to the heavy workout I did yesterday. Will train sort of lightly this week leading up to my meet on Saturday.
Been a while. Good to see you are recovered from injury enough to keep doing Olympic style training. Keep it up lady

Yikes, stay away from them!
I was over talking to one of the neighbours yesterday, who I hadn't seen in about a week. That's not a big deal, but you usually see her around, even if we don't talk. She mentions the flu, and I swear I took a step back. I'm so not looking forward to going back to school in September as I remember last year there were at least a couple of bouts of stuff going around in the fall.

I hope you don't get it either!
Yeah, I'm trying to steer clear of the sickos as much as possible. I was feeling sort of meh earlier this week and I'm hoping that's when I was fighting off this bug. Fingers crossed
So I was on youtube today and ran across this video. I totally remember watching this guy when I was a kid on Wide World of Sports and at the olympics. I'm really glad we don't have to wear these Borat-style singlets anymore!

Hard to tell, but weight-wise it is almost exactly the same as the one I'm using sometimes for light warm-ups after deciding the broomstick isn't enough.
The alu bar however can't be dropped as it would bend too easily but is pretty good for lighter use. Trainer/owner of the gym uses it to let women start (incline) bench presses with this one too.
It's not so much the extra weight of the men's bar, but the diameter that gives rise to problems.. my fingers just won't around a regular bar and grip goes all the way down the drain.. for squats that's not a problem, but pulling? . For deadlifts that's easily a difference of up to 20kg or several reps.

Oh, I cannot wait to burn my retinas! Damn Big Brother and his insistence on limiting my fun.
So....despite my best efforts, I came down with the dreaded stomach bug on Monday night. Horrible, horrible stuff. Didn't get out of bed all day yesterday. Finally feeling better today, but still woozy and weak. I'm supposed to do a meet on Saturday, but unless I miraculously recover, it ain't happening.
