Hi Leigh. Thanks for stopping by. We mainly talk about my CTS (carpal tunnel syndrome), shoes, kids and such in here. Sometimes we even talk about workouts!!!
I just got a chance to watch the video. So nice! I don't know enough to comment on form or anything, but to my inexperienced eyes your lifts looked very smooth and natural. You even dropped the weights gracefully!
I think I want to be like you when I 'grow up'. LOL!

Ditto!
Did what you advised me...lots & lots of singles , with about 1 set of OH squats thrown in for every time the weight went up. I'm blessed to be able to use every conceivable combination of weights with a barbell weighing 15kg (technique bar weighs only 7-7.5 kg but has very nasty threading resulting in scraped shins) and disks of 0.5-1-1.25-2-2.5-5-10-15-20-25 kg.
The 0.5-1-2 kg disks are both in iron as well as rubber so it's easy to shove them onto the sides of the bb. The only thing missing is that every disk below 10kg is small , so only after 35kg you can snatch or clean it from the floor at the right height.
What was interesting is that the transition of technical into power snatches is quite abrupt: till 27kg most lifts were OK, 27.5 kg was iffy, 28kg a no go.. maybe also due to me getting tired. When I'm not too tired I can do a power clean of up to 34 kg. Dont' remember if I ever hit 35kg.. if I did , I didn't use the big disks, just added more rubber disks.
Good workout today. I didn't workout yesterday due to my son's 5th birthday party (which was a blast). Felt pretty good this morning.
Warmups - etc
Front Squats - 1x20kg, 1x30kg, 1x40kg, 1x50kg, 1x55kg, 1x60kg, 1x65kg, 1x70kg(F) - just barely missed the 70kg. I should have increased the weight a little slower I think..that jump from 65 to 70 was just a little too much for me. Still, it was really close...i was halfway out of the hole and then just couldn't quite get it. I'll try again later in the week.
Overall good workout. Missed the jerk on the 55.5kg, but the clean was pretty easy...I was just really outta gas by that point and didn't want to do another one.
Good workout there Jill -impressive numbers as always. Carry on.

Thanks guys! Workouts have been good lately...well, until today. I had another crappy night's sleep last night. Woke up at 1am and was wide awake. Ended up watching tv until 3am and then going to sleep until 6. Felt pretty crappy this morning, but decided to go train instead. Not sure if it was a good idea or not.
That's it. Snatches were okay, but I was just feeling off and decided to just stop at 40kg and pack it in for the day. Wrists felt weird and I was just plain tired. Tomorrow is a rest day and I'll try again Thursday.
Yuck, definitely hate those middle of the nights 'can't sleep' times. It's been a while since I've had those kind of sleep patterns (thank god). Sorry you're not sleeping well though. It definitely makes you feel off though. I'm kind of impressed that you even got into the workout.
Thanks ladies! Still haven't completely caught up on my sleep and I think i have been on the verge of coming down with a bug. My son had some sort of stomach bug Tuesday and Wednesday and I think I was fighting it off.
Trained today. Just so-so. Cleans were okay but jerks were just not peppy at all and I missed the a couple.
Question for ya. I was doing OH squats last night with little weight, but watching myself from the front in the mirror. When I am almost all the way to the bottom, it seems to me like I am leaning a bit to one side. Maybe. Kept doing it and trying to analyze, but couldn't quite pinpoint it. Did some real slow and others real fast to try and see what what what. Didn't feel "off". Could this be an indicator of a weakness in one side vs the other? Or should I not worry.

not Jill, but...
first off, don't squat in front of a mirror. Film it instead. The mirror will mess up your form.
Leaning to one side could be weakness or it could be that one side (hip/leg) is tighter than the other causing you to compensate.

Hey Jill - had my session with Jason today and afterwards we reviewed my videos from last week... FWIW, he thinks my arm position in the catch might be better if I had a regular 10kg bar because I can't get my grip as wide on the baby bar I'm using... But ANYWAY... I showed him a little of your most recent snatch video and he was VERY impressed... he was pointing out all the stuff you do right (especially how explosive and snappy you are). I told him I want to lift like you when I grow up

haha...thanks Bytsi! Don't they have 15kg ladies oly bars at your gym? They have all those damn platforms and no ladies bar? It makes a HUGE difference, especially for L'il people like us w/small hands. I have sort of unconventional technique for my lifts (my coach's style of teaching) so not so sure you want to copy me. Keep up the training!
