I'd say oly front squats are deep, as deep as you need to go to catch a clean. Whereas if you say just front squats you could be going just to parallel.
Not an expert on the olympic terminology, so don't quote me on that.
Welcome back to the land of the wired, even if it is just at work!
What's the difference between Oly front squats and regular front squats? My google powers are not answering me this morning.
Oly front squats are ALL THE WAY down...not just to parallel. They are way harder for me, especially since I'm flexible and the bottom of the squat basically has my ass touching backs of ankles.

You beat me to it Kark. Did you get your lifting shoes yet?

nope, some unexpected expenses came up. Long story short, I'm gonna have to buy myself a new cellphone
I'll see though, it's no rush. I'll probably get them if my back injury heals (I injured my lower back recently)
The workouts have been few an far between lately. Work has been very busy and it's been hard getting away to get some training done. Finally I trained today.
That's it. Overall good workout. Wanted to do some squats, but because of the shennanigans going on in the gym today, which I will get into, I didn't get a chance.
So, the gym where I do my non-coach training is a management disaster. It very poorly run and they just can't seem to make up their mind what they want to be or what they want to do. The small "private" area where they have the oly platform was originally intended as an athletic performance area where you train w/the one trainer who runs it. Then they decided that they would put all that bullshit boxing equipment in there that takes up half the room and delivers absolutely no added value because the boxing trainer is the worst trainer on earth. He never uses any of the heavy bags that are hanging from the scaffolding that they put in there. He mostly has his soccer-mom clients do "sparring" "rope jumping" and then 30 minutes of crunches and such.
So today I go to lift and they are assembling the Ice Skating treadmill that they had been threatening to buy for the last six months. I was actually shocked that they bought it. The thing is friggin HUGE and takes up half the room. They haven't even built the platform around it yet. So basically the "private" area now has boxing equipment, a ridonculous treadmill (that cost $100K) and my platform sandwiched in the corner. The squat racks and GHR and other stuff is scattered around and they will need to figure out where they will put it all. I know the guy who runs the sports conditioning program - he is a great trainer and now has no room to train his athletes.
I blew a fuse and complained to management and threatened to cancel my membership. They were like, ummm, we didn't know the treadmill was gonna be that big. Are you kidding? You spent $100K and you didn't even measure the area where it would go? Are you retarded? Then I overheard some of the folks trying to figure out how much they were going to charge for each session on the treadmill. They were saying maybe $40. Oh, so they didn't even try to figure out ROI on this purchase either? Idiots. They are so going to go bankrupt.
Okay, rant over. This is not by problem until they go bankrupt and then I'll have to figure out an alternative. I filled out an official complaint for the suggestion box and that's it. Oh, I'm heading on VACATION tomorrow for a week. We're going to northern MI for a little R&R. No training for me!
Here's what I'm talking about when I say an ice skating treadmill.
Hey, Jill, I'm just putting in a post to say "Keep it up, woman!" I've been peeking in, just not posting.
A skating treadmill? Heck, people can skate outside here six months sometimes, and indoors all year. We don't need to freakin' treadmills. LOL
I continue to enjoy reading about your training, trials and progress. You inspire me, even if I have to focus more on martial arts progress and conditioning work than strength training progress right now.
That treadmill actually looks awesome, but I can imagine you were pretty upset finding your precious Oly platform squashed in a corner. It could be worse.. they could have taken it out.
They removed the squat rack in my current gym years before I joined. Same thing with my previous gym where they removed it after I left. Not really but it has gone upstairs where the physiotherapist has the exclusive right to use it. If you'd want to squat, you'd need to become her client ...
Cool treadmill, bad planning on their part. At $40 a session, even with 10 sessions a day, 5 days a week it would take them a full year to pay that thing off. And I'm sure the maintenance for that thing isn't cheap either. How exactly do you get a Zamboni onto a treadmill?
