Notes: Benching and to a lesser extent upper back work is retardedly easy to recover from and indeed thrive on when lifting 5-6 days out of seven.
Squatting and pulling on the other hand is much more brutal. Is this a function of my shitty work capacity? Probably, in part. It's probably got a lot to do with the fact that those lifts are just fuckin' hard. I doubt it's the weight, because I'm not lifting that much more on those lifts (which is sad, considering the bench especially is still lagging years behind where it should be due to recurring shoulder problems).
Oh well. Like it or not the legs and lower back are going to get a lesson in adaptation.

my work capacity for lowerbody work really improved after 4 weeks of smolov, the only time my lower-back seems to get taxed is when i really try to push my bench arch.
Wow. The banners in your sig just keep getting better. Pretty soon it will just be "PMDL...'nuff said"
Happy 'merica Day down under. You need to become one of those people who move to another country and then become intensely patriotic. There's a couple who live around here who are Brits who drive an old Rolls Royce with little union jack flags that flap in the wind next to the side mirrors. I'm sure they've been here for abotu 40 years but they feel the need to always let you know they are NOT american. So what you should do is get a beat up Trans Am and blare Molly Hatchet as you drive around. That would be cool.

I was thinking more of Guns N Roses while I sport the sleeveless NASCAR t-shirt.

They don't, but I did notice something interesting. After adding direct calf work back in a few weeks ago, the problem with my right hamstring wanting to pop during GHRs has mysteriously stopped. Dunno if it's related but I wouldn't be surprised.

You would think there'd be a good southern rock band from 'bama, but apparently they are all from Jacksonville. Even the Allman Bros. I had no idea. I did a quick search of famous people from Alabama, and besides Hank Williams, the coolest was...
So you could drive your trans am wearing a jim nabors t-shirt and you would be the ghey-est 'merican down under. So there.
I'm the only person from the state that doesn't give a damn about football.
I wasn't planning on lifting today. I woke up after poor sleep feeling like crap, so I decided to eat a bunch of carbs instead. Went to train Di tonight and couldn't resist the lure of the GHR bench, so I ended up doing a rotation of weighted GHRs and GHR situps with seated DB cleans. Didn't really count, but I think I got 4-5 sets of 8 on everything.

Well, here's a little bit of trivia for you then.
If you're familiar with the show "Smallville", the theme song for that show is a sample of the song "Save Me" by a band called Remy Zero. They're from a small town called Chelsea, which is maybe a half hour from where I'm from in 'bamer.

No sir man, I don't like that crap. I'm a rocker through and through.
Here's a list of my favorite bands: AC/DC, Van Halen, not Van Hagar, Skynyrd, Def Leppard

Seriously, I'm amazed you're surprised by how much more taxing LB work is. When I was doing an UB/LB split I always had the refeeds on LB day as UB days just made me feel as if I just had a 'walk in the park' and were never really taxing, except for pullups.
Getting to understand the difference between 'taxing on the body' and actually 'burning calories' was the nastiest surprise as of late. That really cured me from trying to shove in tons of volume in a workout.
Question for you: what do you think is a decent volume for an intermediate lifter when it comes to sets per exercise if you're working in the 4-8 rep range?
For nearly half a year I've done 1 WU + 6 work sets in double wave loading pattern. What is your opinion about wave loading?
So I've been off the last four days. Three of which were intentional; yesterday just ended up being a spectacular hangover. The tap-test was telling me I was burnt out anyway, so hell with it.
Starting my a new training cycle this week, partly to unload from last week (kinda) and partly to focus on some nagging weak points that were starting to crop up. Was supposed to start yesterday with an upper body workout, but that was scrubbed as mentioned.
Good things: I'm fatigued in spots that haven't been fatigued in awhile (quads, hip external rotators, hip flexors, abs).
Bad things: See good things. Also, my hip/ankle flexibility has gone to shit. See front squats. The pause at the bottom was to help break things in. The other front squat workout will probably be done with chains for similar reasons.

I was doing some GHRs today and got a mutha calf cramp. This usually doesn't happen. Hmmmm....
