Fuck.

Failed on 315 squat

Hit 145 for a triple on the military, which is a step up.
Failed on a 385 pull, but got 315 for 7.

Just was not feeling it today. At all.

Yeah, next time for sure.

You've definitely got the strength for it, as we saw last week. Probably just something small, bad day, miss-groove, not quite tight enough. These numbers should be easy in a month or two.

Thanks, guys. I'm going for 5x5 with 285 tomorrow, an opportunity to redeem myself. (So fucking nervous about it though).

Today: Low cals/cardio
4 min warmup
20 sec work/10 sec walkx8
4 min cooldown
30 minutes walking

The intervals were tough. This felt OK on the whole, though. Now, to finish up my report on Philip Roth's American Pastoral.

And failing a squat really, really, really sucks(I just found that out). Probably makes you more nervous the next time you get under the bar, especially when going for a PR again.

See today's workout

Pre-workout
Nature valley granola bar
apple
some cereal/milk

Volume Day

Squat
4x5x285+10
1x4x285-FUCK!

Bench Press
5x5x190 + 2 sets at 190

Deadlift
1x2x350+5

Wide-Grip Pullups
2x8xBW

BB Curl
2x8x75

Post Workout:
6 ego LOW FAT waffles
1 scoop protein
1 piece dark chocolate
popsicle

Comments:
-Hard fucking workout. Was spent at the end. Also, I have a feeling that the old, rusty bar I used last week was less than 45, meaning that this was a 12=15 lb jump.
-Squats were really, really tough. Did most of them low-bar, which helps alot.
-Bench was easy. Bar was moving fast.
-Grip was limiting factor on deads.
-I think I'm gonna go for 3x5x295 squats on wednesday.

Wow. Nice Benching, looking at those sets, It looks like you have way more than 230lbs in you for a single!

Damn good squats too, almost getting 5x5 with 285 is pretty impressive, I think you redeemed yourself this week

Good workout.

So, either you are really good at repping out, or you've got more in you for singles, or I'm just shit at repping out

Well, 5 heavy squats look totally different than 1 really, really heavy squat. My squat form on singles needs work.

I hate to make excuses, but the grip thing was mostly due to being SPENT by that point. It'll get better.

Do you think grip is the reason why your Squat is right up there, but your deadlift isn't?(just comparing to my numbers lol)

I really don't know.

I'm weak off the floor, which would suggest weak hammies, but my grip isn't great either. I'm pretty much weak everywhere--I'm hoping all this heavy squatting will add some muscle and bring up my pull.

Depends how you're lifting. Weak off the floor doesn't necessarily=weak hammies.

At least I don't think, zach/frank would know better.

weak quads and glutes. not weak hammies unless you're pulling stiff legged.

Yeah I was gonna say, wouldn't it be more weak quads? Looks like thats it more likely, and the glutes.

You'd know if you're grip is affecting it simply by telling if the bar slips in your hand.

Ooooooh, that's how you tell. All this time, I thought you know your grip is failing by you falling backward.
Oh, how misled I have been.

I always thought that weak from the floor=weak hammies, and weak near lockout=weak glutes. But I'll take your word for it. Maybe throw in bunch of olympic/front squats in the future, once I get my back squat somewhere half decent.

And yeah, while we're talking about how I suck, I also stiff leg the hell out of my heavy pulls.

look at your video. You use your quads and stretch reflex to break the bar off the floor. Glutes come into plate getting the bar off the floor too, as well as lockout.

Good stuff, guys.

Today:
I left school 2 hours early, as I felt like it. Came home and had this calorie bomb:
can tuna
can of chickpeas
salad
olive oil
mozzeralla cheese
balsamic vinegar

Probably good for 750 cals.

Then, BICEPS DAY, plus 12 minutes treadmill walking.

Looking forward to tomorrows w/o, going for 3x5x295.

"Recovery" Day

Squat
3x5x295+10

Dips
1x3xBW+45-this wasn't gonna work, the 45 kept hitting the footstands below the dip station
1x12xBW
1x10xBW

Chins
1x10xBW
1x4xBW

Face pullsx5 sets

EZ bar French pressx5-ish sets.

Comments:
-good stuff. This was more than it seems like.
-Squats went well. I wore a hoody, just so the bar didn't dig into my back as much. Worked well. Squats themselves were solid. None were really bust-a-nut, but hard over all.
-Everything else was fine, I guess. A good amount of volume.
-Not sure what I'm gonna do on friday--either cross the rubicon and hit 305for 3x5, or go for a heavy ass squat. Any suggestions?
