Wraps were delivered this morning, only three business days after I ordered them.
Awesome.
They feel much stronger (and more painful) than my other wraps, hopefully I'll get more out of them.

get someone really strong to tie your wraps, i can get around 80lbs out of good knee wraps and i squat wide (helps more the narrower you are). Got to be able to withstand the pain though haha.
Trevor is pretty strong and is really good at tying wraps.
I swear the amount you get from wraps goes up every time you write about it. Wasn't it 50lbs last time? :P
I just hope I can handle it. I need to focus and make sure the stronger wraps don't shoot my hips up faster than the bar. I already lean forward a lot, so if that happens I'll be stuck trying for a goodmorning PR.

Squat
210kg - form was a little off due to the new wraps, but it still went up nice and easy. Took it really deep, too. pass
230kg - this was hectic. I can't tell from the video how deep I am, but I was given three whites so I must have hit depth. First official squat above 500, my confidence was soaring. pass
Passed the third attempt because I wouldn't get a gram above 230.
Bench
Warm ups were feeling heavy and I couldn't keep my arch if my life had depended on it, so I wasn't sure how these would go.
140kg - kept my arch well, bar went up easy. pass
150kg - didn't wait for the press command and the bar came up very uneven, spotters took it. miss
150kg - reset the suit and tried again. I waited for the command and kept the bar even, got it up without too much trouble. pass
Deadlift
Funny story. See ** below.
220kg - up easy. pass
240kg - got it up to the knees before it slowed down. Kept pulling, unrolling my back, and I might have hitched a little. It took a few seconds to get the bar up but I locked it out. During this process the bar stopped moving once or twice. miss
240kg - reset my suit, threw more baby powder onto my thighs, but had the same problem. I locked out the weight but I didn't do it cleanly enough. miss
So I ended up with a 230 squat, 150 bench and 220 pull (7.5kg below my best contest pull). Totaled 600, enough to qualify as a class II lifter and enough to make it to provincials/nationals.
I really would have liked to get that 240 deadlift but overall I'm happy with the way things went. I learned my lesson though, small PR first, big PR later.
Videos are uploading.
**Trevor was keeping track of how many lifters were left in the flight before mine. He thought they were starting the third attempt, when they were actually starting the first attempt of my flight. We thought I had about 10-15 minutes before my opener. He walked down the hall to have a look and I stayed in the warm up room. I heard someone calling "Matthew!" but thought 'nah, why would he be calling me'. I stick my head out to look anyway and I see him running towards me telling me to grab my belt and my stuff and get out there NOW. So we run down the hall into the comp room, and I see my name on the screen with less than 15 seconds left. He throws on my straps and I run up to the platform - without a belt. Three seconds left as I step up to the bar. Two seconds left as I grab the bar. One second left as I start the pull. Just made it.
Luckily it was my opener so it went up fairly easy. As I walked away from the bar I had the crowd of lifters in the corner telling me how awesome that was and giving me high fives, that was pretty cool.

It was a big jump alco, but in my defense, I thought I could get it. haha!
In hindsight I should have gone 220, 230, 240. Lesson learned.

Thanks guys.
I've never tried squatting in oly shoes alco, I squat in chucks. I'm going to play around with my set up a bit though, so I could try it.
I forgot to mention that I was the only person in my weight class which is unusual, I've always had 3-5 lifters at least. I think I heard that two guys dropped out. So anyway I got a medal for coming in first. ha!

I find when I wear a shoe with a heal, my knees shoot forward more and although it feels like I am much deeper, I am actually higher then without them. As I get into the hole my knees come forward and my hips in relation to my knee don't drop, my knees just keep going forward.
So I had a contest yesterday, Ontario Intermediates.
My handler had a funeral to attend and everyone I asked to help me out at the meet said they were busy with their own lifter. My coach couldn't go with me because he was running a conference at the college. So I was on my own for the day.
But my girlfriend and parents came to see me, which was nice.
squat
220kg - easy opener, pass
235kg - got it up but didn't get low enough, no lift
235kg - I thought I got lower but was redlighted again, no lift
bench
130kg - easy opener, pass
140kg - lockout was uneven, no lift
140kg - went up easy, lockout was even, pass
Good enough for second place in the 100kg class (actual weight 92kg).
I have squatted 240 in training, so missing 235 due to depth was really shitty.
My shirt bench has been lacking in training, even though my raw bench is up. Bench was down 10kg from my last meet.
Small deadlift PR. That was nice.
Total was down 5kg from my last contest.
Hitting a squat/total PR was most of my reason for competing this weekend, so it sucks that I didn't get either. I know if I had someone there to call my depth I would have gotten that squat, but I still should have been able to get depth on my own.
Oh well, that just means my next contest will have me hitting an even bigger squat PR.
I'll have videos up in a few days.

Glad to see you back, I was wondering where you had gone.
Looks like you are making some progress, even though it didn't show as much as you would have liked in the meet. Sounds like the 235kg squats where close.
It sucks having no handler, I have been in that situation before and it really makes it difficult to set huge PRs when you are worried about wrapping your knees.
looking forward to seeing the vids.. you should start you log back up.
nice to see you updating again. I agree, it sounds like you've still made some good progress, and just had an off day due to circumstances that were outside of your control.
What has your training setup looked like recently?

Hey guys, it's good to talk to you again.
You're right Frank, I have made a lot of progress even though it didn't show. I'm happy with that, and I'll just have to make sure it shows next time. I'd like to take a long break before my next comp. Nationals are in April but I'll only bother if there's a chance of placing top three. Otherwise I'll do another provincials, which will hopefully be after April.
Alco, I'm still using my basic four day split. Deadlift, bench, off, squat, off, bench, off. Still figuring out block periodization as well.

squat 2 - looks like the side judge said the depth was good.. but head judge didn't. I think thats fairly borderline depth for IPF, where i lift there is no doubt that would be 3 whites. maybe.. my opener is that deep, maybe. Considering how quick you where in/out of the hole i think its a bit ridiculous the head judge can call that.
bench/dead looked good. put some baby powder on your legs for the deadlift and I think your lockout will be easier.
I am also looking into block periodization.. but I am having so much fun with high volume russian training that I am having a hard time imagining doing anything else.
Hey, your squats looked about an inch above "just on", two inches above "three whites everytime".
Looks like your still making some progress, but I'd be wanting more than that, so maybe time to look at how you can improve your training, for the squat and bench anyway.
What knee wraps are you using? And Frank is right, deadlifting without baby powder is like giving away 5kgs almost!
As much as I wish I made that lift, they were right to call it high.
At the last contest I didn't really feel the baby powder helped that much, so I didn't want to bother with it. Also I left it in my bag in the warm up room and didn't feel like walking back between attempts.
The knee wraps are THP, Simon.
Frank, do you know if your fed has a meet planned near me in the next year?

and there is usually nationals a few months after that. Which I think you saw some of last year?
If you do decide to compete in a wpc meet you will have a blast. While ive never competed in an ipf meet I have attended a few, yes the lifts are cleaner but they are very boring. No 300lbs juice freaks, no 1000lbs squats, no metal blaring over the announcer, either
Whats nice is that you will have zero problems with lifts getting passed. If I where to go IPF I would have some issues I would need to work out.
You live in double-ply country with the usa right beside you, as well.
I can't find a working site for the CPO, everything seems to be down. How do you know where/when the meets are?
December 5th looks like provincials. It's not too far from me, I should go watch that.

http://www.metalmilitia.ca/ <- that is the site, it sucks and just posts upcoming meets. I know that when a meet is around here, most of the gyms have posters on the walls and such.
There's a powerlifting gym in Toronto I'll have to check out one of these days. No other gym I know of will post an upcoming CPO meet.
If there will be a meet around the same time next year, I might wait until then and try to get a 600 squat in.
