I haven't tried them recently, good idea.

deadlift - January 18

deadlift
135
225
275
315
365
suit on
415x1
415x1
455x1 10lb PR
475x1 30lb PR

rack pulls - just below knee
455x1
455x2
475x1
455x3

chin ups (super setted with rack pulls)
60x2
55x3
55x3
bwx10

475 went up nice and easy. I still don't know where my sticking point is. I'm looking at +480 in the competition if everything goes well.
I have videos but I have a staff party tonight, I'll try and get them uploaded tomorrow. My back rounds quite a bit, but it's mostly my upper back and I don't think it's too big a problem. It's no worse than any efs videos anyway.

Looks like getting the straps taken in was a good idea after all.

One more bench session left. Midweek I'll do some sled drags and some fun things. Then the competition.

That 475 looked damn nice!

Does the Mariah Carey music help sooth you while lifting?

nice pulling.

looks like the suit is still a little loose though. You may want to look into getting the straps taken in more after the competition, get a smaller suit, or grow into it.

reason being, that the guys i train w/ who put on metal suits, we have to help them put the straps on b/c they're so tight. You shouldn't be able to put the straps up that easily.

That said, it's really promising that you're pulling that much and squatting what you do w/ a loose suit. Once you get a tighter one, more weight!

I'm so used to bad music that it doesn't even phase me anymore.
In the other room I train in, they play a lot of 80's "easy listening" type stuff.
The gym I belonged to a couple years ago played pop music all the time too.
I don't even notice it anymore. During one of the videos there's actually a commercial on while I'm pulling haha.

You might be right alco. It's good enough for now though. I'll probably have to buy a new suit for my next comp anyway.
Maybe not.

im not sure how you can stand a gym like that

ive trained at similar gyms and i think all my lifts jumped 100lbs when i started going to a serious gym hah.

deads look good, im surprised you get anything out of that suit actually, most of a deadlift carryover is in the straps.

70 pounds is a lot more than I was expecting to get out of the suit as well.

Update to my planned attempts

squat
440
480
500

bench
200
210
215-220

deadlift
440
480
500

This could be a really sweet competition.

Forgot to post my bench session from yesterday.

bench - January 19

hanging leg raise
decline hip raise
cable squat

paused bench
80kgx3
90kgx1
95kgx1

2-board
95kgx?
100kgx?

3-board
110kgx1
110kgx1

db curls
50,60,55

speed bench
60kgx5x3

Probably more volume than most would do five days out from a competition, but I haven't trained my bench real hard lately so I figure I can handle it, and it couldn't hurt.
Done training until the meet. Wednesday I'll do some sled drags, practice setting up for the squat/bench. Thursday I'll practice setting up for the squat/bench.

Why would you do sled drags now?

Sled drags are a conditioning exercise right? Why do you need conditioning this close to a meet, all it could do is possibly take away from your strength training. Save it for off season training I reckon.

Just to do something to keep active.
Because there's no eccentric phase to sled rows/presses, it won't take away from my recovery before the meet. It'll probably help.

I did the same thing before my last competition and I did well then.

Today did some mobility work, some light squat work (60kg), practiced setting up for the bench.
Did some sled drags (one arm pushes and pulls), some light machine rows, some light decline crunches/hip raises.

I did all my squats with the wraps today, then walked around in them after each set for as long as I could before I couldn't take it anymore and had to undo them.
I'm worried I'm going to get them wrapped nice and tight at the competition, and then freak out when my feet fall asleep. I don't want to fail lifts because of that, so I'm getting used to them now. I'll wrap my knees tomorrow and Friday night as well.

With squats, you need to be organised. You need to keep ontop of the lifting order, and start wrapping when the guy 2 guys before you gets on the platform, or thereabouts. Do you have a good helper for the comp?

i have heard that you start wrapping when they call the weights for the guy in front of you.

I start at the lifter before me approaches the bar, unless we are using the same weight.

mind you - ive never seen someone not be able to do a lift because they needed 30 more seconds.. im sure it happens once in a while, id be pissed though!

I know, Im just saying in most comps if you took 1:30 nobody would know or care, they rarely time it. maybe the ipf is different.

We have a timer, on the same electronic display that shows the weight on the bar and which attempt it is. Even at local comps.

Yup, there's a timer.

Well guys, I probably won't be online tomorrow as I have class and I won't have much time before we leave for Niagara Falls.
Wish me luck!

Today's competition was fucking awesome.

Here's how it went down.

squat
opener: 200kg - easy three whites
second attempt: 220kg - three more easy whites
third attempt: 227.5kg (501lbs) - two reds, neither one for depth (video proof)

We're not really sure why I wasn't given this lift, it's possible I was leaning forward too much at lockout. The reds were given by one side judge and the center judge.

bench
opener: 95kg - reds. I pressed a half second before I got the signal. In my coaches words I 'got horny' and pressed before I should have.
second attempt: 100kg - passed
third attempt: 105kg - no lift

This was all expected as I haven't been able to train my bench very well lately. Not excited about this, but satisfied anyway.

deadlift
opener: 200kg - easy
second attempt: 220kg - easy
third attempt: 227.5 kg - DONE! THREE WHITES!

The third attempt was a little hectic, but I got it.
Because I hit depth in the squat and got it up I'm counting it as done, even though I wasn't given it.
So in my mind, I hit 501 in two lifts today.

485+220+501 = 1206

So I achieved my goal of totaling 1200.

My face is a splotchy red colour and my thighs/knees/shoulders hurt, but damn was it worth it! What a good fucking day.
I'll post videos later, I'm going to go order a pizza.

Thanks guys!

NW, I'll be back in the weightroom on Monday. I'll take it pretty easy this week though, and I'll be lifting heavy again the week after.

I squatted 501 to proper depth and without assistance.
Everyone who saw me squat (besides two judges I guess) said I got the lift.

So I pulled the same as I squat, which is still weird I guess...
