Thanks Simon (..I think?)

There is a trap bar actually. But why would I want to do trap bar deads? I mean, what does that do for my dead/squat?

squat/deadlift - January 26

squat
265x4 - wasn't feeling it, called it there

rack pull - standing on a 45
305x3,2,3,2

goodmorning
185x4,6

I was really sore yesterday for some reason. The squats hurt, and I wasn't lifting as much as I should've been able to. Decided to stop after the one set.
I'm a little surprised with the weight of the goodmornings, I thought I'd be in the low 200s. I think I just need to get used to the movement again, and not be sore as hell when I'm doing them. That weight should go up quickly. I was running out of time, so I only did two sets there.

it'll help your squat and deadlift.

it'll teach you to use leg drive off the floor. So, when the pulls get heavy w/ straight bars, you're not stiff legging it off the floor. With a trap bar, if you don't squat down and use leg drive for it, then you're fucked.

Plus, they feel a lot more natural than straight bar pulls.

I guess it doesn't really matter though. If you're pulling heavy of any sort, it's all good. Just thought it would be a fun race.

I almost stiff leg it anyway though

Tell you what, maybe after I'm done this block I'll have a trap bar deadlift race with you.
So in four weeks if you still think it's a good idea, we'll talk. Cool?

and i know you stiff leg it! that's why trap bar would be a good suggestion, duh!!! it would teach you NOT to stiff leg deadlifts.

Ok, ok. You win. Give me four weeks, then we'll have our race.

What are we racing to, anyway?

OH day - January 28

OH press
155x2x2
135x6

pull up
8,6,6,6

db bench
80x6,6,5,5

reverse grip row
185x6x3
185x8

seated shrugs, neutral grip
up to 200x10x2

Dumbbells only go up to 80, so I tried using one of those small multi grip bars for one arm rows. Loaded it with four quarters, set up to lift, and realized it was too long and was probably going to hit my in the leg. Tried it anyway. Turns out I was right, I couldn't get my leg back enough that the bar missed it. So decided to do reverse grip rows.

db bench felt weird. Partly because of the bench I'm using, it's really thin/hard. In the next few weeks I should make some good progress on this, and on the incline bench from the other day, just from getting used to the movement again. So that should be good.

haha
First you have to get facebook Roland

squat day - January 30

squat
285x3,3,2

front squat
205x2,1,1,2

RDL
315x6
325x4x3

hanging leg raises 12x1
hip raises 15x2

I had the strength for at least 3 reps on all of those front squat sets. I didn't have the set up, and knew if I did another rep (moreso on the sets of 1) that I'd lose the bar for sure.
Next week I'll keep it at 205 but I'll make sure I get more reps on each set.

Everything else was pretty good. On the last set of back squats, my face completely flushed. I went into the washroom after and my skin was normal colour but my eyes were both a light red. During the set I thought for sure I popped something, ha.

Just to warn you, alco does this thing where he complains if you don't take a turn quick enough, but then he won't take a turn.

I hate when you go into another tab for a moment, and then come back to the forum where you were typing something, and hit backspace, but because the cursor was no longer in the text box, the page reloads instead of just deleting a letter or two, and you lose everything you had written.
You'd think after the first time I'd learn to make sure the cursor is still in the text box. But no. Every once in a while I'll accidentally hit backspace without even looking, and I'll lose everything I had written, and I'll be angry for a moment, and I'll write an incomprehensible rant, like this one.

ugh

bench - Feb 1

incline bench
185x5
195x3x2

bentover row
195x6,5,5

rack press
195x4,2,3

seated row
220x6
200x8x3

bb curl
105x5,6

elbows out db extension
40x6x2

I had to go to a different (closer) gym today because of a snow storm. Different gym = different equipment = wonky numbers.
The bench wasn't normal, it was some weird snakey S shaped thing. Hard to explain. It's three pieces, instead of just two, and the middle piece is on an angle but you can't adjust it. So you have the seat, then a small middle piece, then the long piece. It was awkward.
I think the bars were heavier, maybe five pounds. Can't tell, but they felt heavier.
The seated row machine had me sitting on the ground instead of on a bench. For some reason I choose not to ponder over, this = a weaker position. That, and the pulleys on this machine weren't smooth at all.
Also, I just like to complain. All said and done, this was a pretty good workout. Considering I shoveled snow twice before lifting, I think I did pretty good.

Pulling tomorrow. I might have to go back to the same gym. That's ok though, I'm not using any equipment besides the squat rack/barbell. Looking forward to it. I'll probably bring my camera, and video the rack pulls/goodmorning. We'll see how I feel tomorrow.

I don't know Zach, I think pulling 405 (from the ground and with a straight bar, cough cough) and squatting 315 were some pretty big mental barriers that I broke down and stomped all over and spat on and then gave the finger to.

But, whatever.

OH - February 4

OH press
160x1x2
145x4

pull up
8,7,6.5

db bench
80x8,6,6

rev. grip row
185x6,7,8

seated shrugs
200x12
210x10

hanging leg raise x10

I wanted 160x2 on the overhead press (failed the second rep), but I'll take that for a single.
There were two guys benching while I was doing these. I was lifting more That made me feel pretty good, in a shallow, self-centered kind of way.

I'm currently using the heaviest dumbbells for benching. That's not good.

On a more personal side of things, I've been thinking a lot about school/future career. Right now I'm in my first semester of software development/network engineering. I'm considering switching over to computer engineering, and starting my own company after graduation (hopefully with some classmates, if I find a few worthy people). This company will design and build robots for various customers/uses.

The program is the same length as the one I'm in now, and 4/5 of the classes I'm currently enrolled in are common between the two programs, so I won't lose a semester.

I am going to make that 300,000 mark. Actually I even said to a friend of mine that I might bump it up to 500,000 just for fun. ha

i've hit 170x1, and almost got 175 but i couldn't lock it out.

That was back in november. I also hit an easy 165 about a month ago on a thick bar. I expect to beat it very soon though with my new improved form.
