Contest is in January. But remember my weakest point is an inch or so off the chest. There are only so many ways to improve that, paused bench is one of them. I don't feel that 2-boards do much for that point, and if I'm going to do a 1-board I might as well just do a full bench.

Dumbbell presses are just to do something different, to get away from the bar for a bit. What would be good for that day instead of floor presses, 3-boards?

Do boards to get ready for when you get in a shirt. If you build up your board pressing at different levels, you'll kick more ass once you get in a shirt.

But I might not be getting in a shirt for a while. As in, after my next contest.

Id still do a ton of board pressing. If you have good speed off of your chest, all you got to do is lock it out. If your leg drive is correct you are not going to have problems getting it moving in the first place either.

Working to build up your lockout now in preparation can do nothing but good though, so I'd say keep board pressing alot, along with your other stuff.

hard to master. I suck at it with my shirt on, but can get it raw..

set-up on your upperback helps, as the bar is comming down begin driving your heads into the floor, as you start to press it push down on them hard. If you bench flat footed, you push your feet downwards from the bench. (your feet never move though).

leg drive is kind of hard with an ipf legal set-up. easiest to just get a pair of oly shoes or shoes with a real high heal so that you can set-up your feet more aggressivly. Ive seen some ipf guys put wood in their shoes so their heals sit higher.

paused bench
2-board
lockout

Friday, RE
dumbbell press
3-board
overhead press
extension

squat RE - November 9

box squat
315x1
335x1
345x1
355x1
365x1 - didn't sit back, knees came forward, quads brought me up
275x2x3

front squat
225x2x2

Gym closed before I could do anything else.

I decided to just work up to a single on the box today, then do some light doubles. I was expecting 340 ish, got up to 355 and was still sitting as far back as I did with 315 last week. Felt really good.

We're making t-shirts for the club. We're going to sell shirts as a way of fundraising. They'll look like this, except with our own club name, logo etc.
Brent wants to get all the members under armor shirts, with better logos.

And Trevor is trying to set up a weightlifting contest, and I think he'll let the club handle it. Brent said some of the proceeds would go to the club. So that's really good.

bench ME - November 10

hanging leg raise
hip raise
pulley side walkouts

paused bench
100kgx1x2
90kgx3x2

2-board
100kgx3
95kgx3x2

lockouts
120kgx1
110kgx3x4

wide grip bentover rows
80kgx8,6,8

chin ups
+35 x3,5,4

barbell curls - no rest after chin ups
40kgxa bunch

All presses were done with ring finger on the rings. The 2-boards felt better than they did before I stopped doing them. Hopefully it will stay that way. I'm trying to do them fast, and slam the bar into the boards like you said Frank, but it's hard to do that without just letting the bar fall to the boards (same way you'd plop onto a box in a box squat).

Thanks NW.

I can't find a better font Simon. I must have went through 100 of them. They all suck.

Everyone in the club minus myself is learning the powerclean/snatch/front squat/etc.
It wouldn't make sense for anyone but me to have a deadlift/squat picture.
Maybe I'll customize my own shirt a bit, good idea Simon!

It's a bitch to do though. I took that guy out of an actual picture from some competition. Doesn't it look drawn though? Ya. I'm pretty skilld wyd da fotoshap.

Sweet, thanks NW. I'll see what I can do.

Simon, it's not going to be a powerlifting club. The point of the club has become to teach athletic therapy students about real training, and eventually to work with athletes from our college or some local schools.
This is what Brent wants, and honestly, I don't care what happens as long as I'm surrounded by people who want to train hard. Doesn't really matter to me what they're training for.

I thought you started the club to get some good training partners. Your training partners would be much better if they were training for the same purpose. You'd want to find 2-3 others with decent strength levels, and convert them to powerlifting, so they can help your training hah!

I'm not that selfish.
Brent is stronger than me, and Trevor is an ex powerlifter (held some national records at one point), ex weightlifter, ex strongman, ex highland.. I don't know the word for that. Highlander? highland games competitor anyway. Those two alone are enough to help me out I think.
The other guys in the club know why I'm training and seem to really want me to do well. The girls couldn't care less, but what can you do.

train with whoever you want, just make sure your pushing yourself as hard as possible. I do most my training with just my girlfriend and that works for me. But when I want to go really heavy, i either got to go for a 3h drive or call other 'lifters' to get a squat crew together.

I like to push to the limit every session so I either need to train more or less solo, or with a handful of guys I know that do the same.

wide stance = more carryover to almost everything.

i like louies approach "if we where to train for a close stance squat competition - we would train wide!"
