Thanks guys.

The failing was bad, I know. But I did get two reps before that, so I think I proved I can do it. They were fast, too. I didn't have to grind it out at all.
I probably won't be hitting a 20 rep squat any time soon. Next week is low volume (after this week's high volume) which means PRs. Which means possibly a 325 squat. I can't give up the opportunity of a 325 squat.

Nice job on the squat. Congrats.

And, yeah, it sounds a little strange to try to write it out, but the visualization is vital. It works.

I forgot my book in my locker when I went to the weightroom, so I'm going by memory here.

OH press - January 14
OH press
145x3x3

bentover row
205x4
195x6x4

bs push ups
+45x8x3
bwx12x2

neutral grip pulldown
180x6x5

side raise 35x8x3
db curl 35x10,8
elbows out extension 35x8,6
wide grip rows to chest 135x8x2

ab circuit

pulldowns suck. the seat is so high (or the cable so low) that I'd have to reset the weights if I want to extend my arms fully. So they're all like partial reps, but it seems to be harder that way, which confuses me. oh well.

Noooooooooooooooooo! I've always been anti-myspace and anti-facebook. With the realities of this changing world, I am beginning to think that perhaps facebook will become a necessary evil as a networking tool, especially since I intend to enter the business world. Imma fight it as long as I can

I was going to fight it, but everyone has it. And I want to meet people. And really, say an old friend wants to get in touch with you. Chances are they're going to search for you on facebook first. If you don't have facebook, they won't find you. Sensical, no?

I will forever hate myself for doing this though. At least, until I meet some pretty lady on facebook. Then I'll congratulate myself on a good decision.

How do you meet girls on facebook.. add random people you don't know?

Seriously. I've never used it.

They don't think you're a creeper?

deadlift - January 16

squat - form work
225x6x2 - felt kind of heavy. not sure why.

deadlift
315x3
365x1
385xF
385x1x2

rack pull
405x3x3
405x2
405x1

hanging leg raise 10x2
side bends 80x10x2

Failed the first 385 attempt. It wasn't a grinder, but it wasn't fast either. Grip gave out halfway up. Stupid smooth bars.
Used straps for the next two attempts. Weight went up relatively easy. I felt like my back was rounding, but a buddy was watching me lift and said it stayed straight the whole time. Weird how that works.

just an fyi, I've been using straps for the heaviest deadlift sets this week and last week. That includes rack pulls. I know I can grip the weight at the other gym (I've unracked 500 just for the hell of it, but wouldn't be able to at this gym). This tells me that the problem is definitely the bar, not my weak ass grip (although I'll admit it is pretty weak).
Next week instead of straps I'm going to use some chalk. Maybe I'll use straps for the single from the floor, but chalk for the rack pulls and anything else.
Straps suck.

whenever i try and use straps, i always pull less. I can never get them to where they're tight enough, or where they feel comfortable.

I just never use them. I have a pretty strong grip though. Never really dropped anything b/c of grip.

just work grip at the end of every workout. It will catch up quick. And not having to worry about grip is prolly the one thing that has improved my deadlift at all. If you dont have to concentrate on gripping the bar you can concentrate in other areas and just know you arent going to drop the bar

You're right man, I should start doing some grip work.
I'm doing as much as I can with a barbell now. Shrugs, etc. Stuff I wouldn't normally do but anything that gets me holding that bar for reps. I can throw in some plate pinches. dumbbell holds, since these ones are the right shape/size... and I guess just getting rid of the straps/using chalk should take care of the rest.

Alco, you do have a pretty strong grip. What's with that?

meet girls on facebook = get to know a few girls and talk to them on facebook and youll network to many places

Nothing wrong with chalk.. I chalk everything. I chalk my hands, I chalk my back before I squat heavy, I chalk my back when i bench heavy, i chalk them when i deadlift, i chalk them when i do rows.. you get the point .. hah

I suck at gripping rackpulls and RDLs so i got some straps for those (used last week for rackpulls). Ive done a 600 x 2 rackpull and could grip that just fine.. so until it causes me a problem im not to worried. I have huge hands and have only found a handful of gloves that fit me.. this could help my cause.

Nice Deadlifts. now, put 4 plates on that sucker.

i never really do any direct grip work.

I tried some plate pinches the other day. I got 4 10lb plates. 5 is real good, and 6 is elite. So, 4 is definitely pretty decent. Most ppl only do 3.

strongman hits a lot of grip, and is real grip intensive. Your grip is fried from doing farmers, tire flips, stones, etc.

edit: and i use chalk occasionally. Usually only on max pulls. I'd like to chalk my back sometime but i can't reach. ha! And, on strongman days, i usually don't feel like walking around to the other guys and borrowing their chalk, so i just use what's already on the bars.

I have pretty big hands too.
