Week 1 Day 1 - squat - April 21
squat
225x8
255x6
275x3
245x6
225x8
superslow squats
135x5x2
one legged leg press
+115x8x3
step up (holding dumbbells)
55ea x8x3
leg curl
100x8
120x8x2
Today sucked. I don't know what's going on with my squats. 275x3 is 25lbs shy of my three rep PR.
One possibility: I realized today that I haven't been setting up the way I normally do on squats. I haven't been tightening up before lifting the bar. I don't know why, I think I just think so much about the actual lift lately that I've forgotten about the set up. Anyway I did it right on the last three sets of squats, and guess what? No hamstring/glute soreness during the rep. Go figure.
Hopefully if I remember to set up properly next week I'll be moving some bigger numbers.

You could still be hurting from those 20 rep squats 2 days ago.
There is nothing quite like the feeling of doing a super slow rep, shaking like a leaf with only 135 lbs on your back. I did these during the book of muscle routine and they were not fun.

I'm going to watch this and see if the 20 reps help your max, because mine sucks and I'm almost willing to try anything. Almost.

Could be from the 20 repper. Good point. Thanks pjb.
Superslow squats suck big time. It is amazing though how just a few seconds make the rep that much harder.
dmw, remember that the 20 rep squats are part of a program. If my max goes up (which it probably won't in this phase anyway, that's what the next two phases are for) it's due to the whole program, not just the 20 rep squats.

Week 1 Day 2 - bench - April 22
bench
180x8
190x6
200x3
190x5
185x5
close grip press - forgot to pause it because I'm an idiot
165x5x3
db press
60x8,7,6
dips
bwx7,6,7
front plank +45x30secx2
side plank bwx30secx2
hanging leg raise
The db press and dips are the oddest experience.. for example during the last set of db press, all six reps were fast and easy. Then I get to rep 7 and halfway up I hit a brick wall and couldn't push through. It was completely unexpected, I felt like I had at least two more reps in me if not more. I just couldn't move them.

My school is doing this thing during reading week of the spring/summer semester. Reading week is June 22-28. They're sending a group of students to New Orleans to help build homes.
I really want to do this. Unfortunately this week is the first week of the third phase, the peaking phase. So I can't miss it. I'm going to email the woman in charge to find out if there's a gym near the hotel they're staying at (the flyer said they're staying at a Holiday Inn). If I can go without missing training time, I'm in.
I'm also going to email Trevor to see if there's any way we can rearrange something, so that if there is no gym I can still go and not fuck up my training.
Just felt like sharing.

Sounds good man, go ahead with it.
If you can't train during that week, you will still be fine I think. Missing the first week of the cycle is much better than missing any other week, if you have to you can just make the peaking phase 1 week shorter, and with 1 week of rest going into the peaking phase it might actually do some good. Better than missing a week in the middle of a cycle for sure!
