Really happy with how things are going. 15lbs off my probable contest weight. I used straps on deads, because it seems like when i use a mixed grip, it tugs on my side where i have the strain. I'm not about to injure myself again. Straps seems to not irritate it at all, so i guess i'll stick with straps on straight bars, and then just use reg grip for trap bar. Next week, i'm going to try and go for 345 for reps, or 365-375 for a double or something like that depending on how i'm feeling.
I don't see any barriers being broken down here... You gotta live up to your log title...

ha! Nice, Simon.

Zach, the elbow sleeves are good. It takes a bit of work to get them on, but I should be able to stretch them out a bit. They'll come in handy now, my elbow pain is starting to come back a bit. Thanks again man.

Feel really good.

I wasn't sure of myself on those first two sets. I wasn't confident with my leg drive. I could've gotten three reps on the first three sets, easy.
The last set I failed the second rep because the guy I was lifting with walked in the door as I was doing my dip (after the first rep) and just about to drive up. I got distracted and the bar fell out of the groove.

170 next week for sure.

What I find helps me to get good leg drive, is between sets, I'll do some vertical jumps as high as I can. Really focus on jumping as high as you can (don't worry about bringing your knees up) and that will get you in the right mindset during your push presses.

You got distracted by looking at a guy? sounds kinda gay...

I get distracted by this hot hick with nice boobs who doesn't like to wear alot of clothing, you need one of those at your gym, to straighten you out!

It was the Trevor guy I was talking about earlier.
I wasn't distracted because I was looking at him, I was distracted because he walked through the door for the first time since I was in the weight room.

There aren't any girls in this weightroom. It's closed to everyone except the superawesome.

You have to be dubbed superawesome by me personally.

I haven't felt any girl at my school to be worthy of such a title yet.

Soon, though, because there's a couple girls joining the club

Haha sweet. Girls are pretty hard to come by in my course, I've talked to the hottest one allready though haha.

Not many chicks in IT, let alone decent looking ones...

You're doing software engineering right? something IT related anyway I remember, any hot chicks in your course?

Software development, ya.

No, no hot girls. There's a few cute ones, and one with big boobies that likes to show them off. But they're still.. below standards. As mean as that is.

Trevor invited me to lift with him again on Thursday. Cool.

But the problem is, I lift on wednesdays and fridays.
Wednesday is my squat day. If I move that to thursday, I'll have had four days between lower body sessions (saturday-thursday) and then I'll have to move my saturday session to sunday.
Or I could keep my wednesday session on wednesday and move my friday session to thursday, but then I'll only have two days between upper body sessions (monday-thursday) with a lower body session in between.

Could I turn down the invitation, saying that I need to keep my schedule, and still have some kind of rapport with the guy?
He trains mondays and thursdays, so I'll see him every monday anyway. Should I change my whole schedule just so we're training on the same days?

No. This way, at least one of us will be in the weightroom on monday, wednesday, thursday, friday. So then if anyone else in the club trains those days, there will be one of us there to train with them.

Ok. I think I'll be alright if I just keep to my schedule, and train with him again next monday. Just keep in touch via email.

I would train with the guy and move along your schedule. Having a good training partner makes a big difference.

I'm going to have a whole group of people to train with.

I just looked at my class schedule, and I can't make it work. I have one class on both Monday and Thursday, but we get an option of which day we want to attend. To lift with him on Thursday, I'd have to stop going on Thursday and start going to the Monday class or I won't make it in before the weight room closes (they're only opening it for a trial period, the hours are very short).
If I go to the Monday class, I won't get in before the room closes on Monday.

So either way, I can only make it in at the same time as him on one day.

I probably should have thought of that before I posted looking for advice.
Thanks anyway though guys. You are right, if I was able to do it I should move my training schedule around. Oh well.

you shouldn't have even asked about what you should do (schedule permitting) about training with someone else. A set schedule is not that important young jedi.

I don't know, I seem to do best when I'm not constantly changing the days around.

This is my reading week, so I could go in thursday without too much of a problem. But then next week go back to my regular schedule.

I'm squatting today. I've been sitting around the house the last couple days (working from home, data entry type stuff) and another day of doing nothing would kill me.
I could do my friday upper body session on thursday, have friday off, squat again on saturday, have my regular OH session on monday again.

Ya alright, I'll do that. Hopefully losing a day between upper body sessions won't be too bad. Actually, I'm sure it'll be fine. This is a pretty light workout anyway

Ok. hahaha thanks for putting up with my general stupidness guys.

it's not constantly changing days around though. It's changing them around so you can lift w/ a training partner. If he's dedicated, and you can do it, then do it! You shouldn't even be pondering that.

There's no reason why switching some days around would throw off your whole system and make you weaker. Weak mind=weak lifter.

I was thinking -1 rest day = not as recovered = can't lift as much

I'm lifting with him tomorrow anyway. Next week I can't because of class schedules. I'll still train with him on Mondays, and the other days I'll have other people from the club hopefully.

Tomorrow I'm going to ask him to check out my bar position when I'm squatting. It's the only place I can find to hold the bar on my back (besides going high-bar), but I want to see what his opinion is.

squat - February 27

box squat (well below parallel)
245x3,4,3,3,3

goodmornings
135x6,6
155x6
175x8,8,10

facepulls
70x10,10,12

hanging leg raises
s.eagle sit ups

When doing box squats, I can't push my back into the bar the way I do during free squats. Am I not supposed to?

OH2 - February 28

strict OH
45kg+bar = 144x4,4,3

bentover row
70kg+bar = 199x6,6,4,4

tate press
50x5,4,6,5

seated row (two single handles)
100 (each handle) x8,10,8,8

side raises
35x10,12

Converting is hard. But it makes me lift more. I thought I was rowing 195 for some reason. Four extra pounds! woo!

Seated row with two single handles instead of one solid handle is much harder. It also feels much, much better.

I asked Trevor to check out my squat form. He said he had no problems with the bar position (remember we thought it looked too low) but I should bring my hands in a bit. I told him the whole story behind the wide grip (elbow pain, remember?) and he said to bring them in as much as I can without the pain coming back. Other than that everything looked good.
He said "ya, but can you overhead squat?"
So I did. He paused and said 'do that again'. So I did. Then he told me I was wasting my time with powerlifting and should take up olympic lifting. haha

Overall it was a pretty good workout. Glad I went today.

how much were you overhead squatting. I hate overhead squats now. I can't wait to start doing more of them with lots of weight.

I was just using the empty bar, just to show that I can do it.

Overhead squats are awesome, they're the most uncomfortable, unforgiving movement I've done so far. I love them. If they had any use whatsoever for me, I'd probably do them. haha

Do you actually think the OH squat would help a real squat? I kind of doubt it. There is a big difference between overhead squating 250lbs or whatever is a half decent overhead squat and back squatting 600 or 800 or whatever.

ive only done them a handful of times and thought the hardest part was actually transfering power directly up while keeping balance forward/backwards.

It would be a good warm up for almost anyone.

It would definitely be a good main lift for oly lifters.

Powerlifting.. not so much.
