Dang that sucks about the missed lifts, I've yet to miss a deadlift, but that may soon change!

I can get this position fine for cleans and push presses, but are you supposed to rest the bar on your front delts for strict pressing? That seems fucking retarded to me, I feel I need to get my arms underneath to drive under the bar, so I pretty much hold it with my arms and rest it on the chest.

No, we don't rest the bar on our front delts if we're strict pressing. We were talking about push pressing.
During a strict press, just hold the bar above your chest like you said.

squat - February 20

squat
315x1x3

box squat - had to pile plates for this one. ended up around mid shin height. pretty low
225x3x4

RDL
315x6,4
225x6x2

I had wanted 315x2, and I know I would have gotten it but for some reason it just didn't feel right. I had to rack it after the first rep each time.
Box squats felt good. Going to keep those.
Not going to RDL for a while - my hamstrings are hating it. I'll do goodmornings instead, and hope that those are ok.

Looks good to me.

What's with the squat emphasis, and all this "not pulling heavy"?

I'm focusing on my squat.
Also, I'm pulling a heavy double on saturdays.

Trevor is my new best friend. This is the email I got this afternoon:

Quote:
I am the program coordinator of athletic therapy, and exercise science
and health promotion. I saw your strength club posting on the board in
our new facility lobby. As a former powerlifter, Olympic lifter and
strongman I am interested in developing a strength club at Sheridan
using our new strength and conditioning facility as a home base.

We are planning on opening our gym the last seven weeks of the semester
for general use (fees will apply) so maybe we could give your group a
test run in the facility to see if it meets your needs. Let me know if
you would like to meet to discuss the options.

Trevor
HA!
Fucking sweet.

Thanks dudes.

I'm pretty psyched about it. Ya, the guy probably knows a lot (he's a phd) and we can learn a lot from him blah blah blah

but GOOD EQUIPMENT! WOOOOOO!

I don't know man, I hope so.

If not it should only be a few dollars out of our own pockets, no big deal. If we go through with the in-school comp we can raise money and put it towards our fees for next year, which would be good.

I'll wait until I speak with Trevor before I make any assumptions. Who knows what kind of deals we may be able to work out.

I want to go all out with this. Get speakers to come in (most likely just professors from local schools, or motivational speakers from around) and talk with the club/anyone else that wants to hear from them. Maybe some current/former powerlifters to come talk with us, or even to train with us for a day.
That probably won't be until next year, but damn, that would be cool to do.

The only thing is that the gym will be open for general admission. Meaning, we won't have the room to ourselves like I had wanted. Cross your fingers that the fees are enough to keep the 'other' students away and in the free weight room.

bench - February 22

incline bench
200x3, 1.5

bentover row
185x8x3

tate press
50x4,5,5

seated row
250x5,6,6,5

side raise 35x12x2
front raise 25x10x2

How does 200x3 incline not equal 225x1 flat. How.

I dunno, it is a mystery.

I think a 200x3 incline actually DOES equal 225x1 flat, just try it again next week. Why don't you just flat bench more? inclines are just assistance work for a POWERLIFTER anyway

What are you trying to say there Simon?

squat - February 23

squat
315x1

deadlift
395x2
315x3x6

kept the ab stuff really light today, I probably could've doubled all of this
hanging leg raise x10
side bend 80x10
plank x60sec
side plank x45sec

Still not recovered from the squat session a couple days ago. I was lucky I got that 315x1. Decided to end it after one set, but I'll do two or three starting next week.
Deadlifts were good. Not sure if 315 is light enough to qualify as speed work, but I did them each as fast as I could, and they felt fast ish.
Didn't feel like going heavy on the ab stuff. Will next week.

Thanks Simon.

I'm lifting with Trevor tomorrow. At least I think I am, he hasn't gotten back to my last email.

I've spent the entire day reading. Finished Three Weeks With My Brother, which even though it is sad enough to be the second book ever to make me cry, ended in a way that left me feeling really good about life in general.
Started Think and Grow Rich by Napolean Hill. The prologue seemed really arrogant (though it's probably just me) and I'm hoping the rest of the book isn't written in the same tone.
And getting closer to finishing The Success Principles. It's taking a long time because I take minutes between every paragraph/chapter to reflect on what I just read. Makes a huge difference, in both time spent reading and overall impact of the book.

Mostly due to these books, my confidence is through the roof right now. I can say with absolute certainty that tomorrow will go really well. I'll be less socially awkward than I usually am, I'll impress the man with my passion for this strength club as well as with my general awesomeness, I'll get everything I want out of the meeting and I'll have a good training session to boot.

I'm pretty excited.

Clean:

151x1
161xmiss 2 times
161x1 (10lb pr)

The strength is there. I just need to get quicker getting under the weight. Stomping my feet (noise) will be a good reminder. Coach and Rich said i was pulling the bar plenty high enough to around nipple level, i'm just not getting under it quick enough.

2 cleans+1 front squat (focus on speed):
129x1x3

Clean+push press:
131x1x3

Squats: 160x5x3

GMs: 95x6x2

Shrugs: 275x6x3

Push press: up to 120x2 (stopped here. Shoulders weren't having it today. I need to ice them. Too many consecutive days pressing. They just felt tight today)

Tri Ext: 55x8x2

pretty good workout.

Squats: 160x5x3

Shoulders/bi was sore, so no OHP.

Log Clean and press:
90xlots
100x3x2
110x3
120x3
130x1
140x1
155xmiss
155x1 (i fucking smashed this weight) (pr!)
155x1 (grinder, but i still got it)
140x1 (toasted)

Deads:
up to 345x2

Really happy with how things are going. 15lbs off my probable contest weight. I used straps on deads, because it seems like when i use a mixed grip, it tugs on my side where i have the strain. I'm not about to injure myself again. Straps seems to not irritate it at all, so i guess i'll stick with straps on straight bars, and then just use reg grip for trap bar. Next week, i'm going to try and go for 345 for reps, or 365-375 for a double or something like that depending on how i'm feeling.

Bitch!

I meant someone else's log. Someone who didn't know what was going on.

Forgot to mention, I also started reading Practical Programming. Though admittedly, I'm only a few pages in.

It's good so far though. Thanks buddy!
