Tonight I combined the last 2 workouts of my deload week. I forgot my log sheet, so the weights were just guesses. I know the bench was heavier than it should have been, but it was light enough.

Front Squats
95 x 5
135 x 5
185 x 5

Bench Press
95 x 5
135 x 5
185 x 5

I threw in a set of pistol squats, 8 each leg. To my wife's amusement, 2 of the kids that were in the middle of a curl fest next to me, attempted to do pistols and failed miserably. She was watching from the cardio deck above the weight floor and got a good laugh out of the whole thing.

I finished with 5000m on the rower. Time was 21:14 tonight. My pace was really good in the beginning and I got to 2000m in 7:45, but I couldn't maintain it for the full distance.

Tonight's workout.
5/3/1 Round 2
Week 1 workout 1

Military Press
45 x 8
95 x 5
105 x 5
125 x 5
140 x 10
95 x 10 x 3 sets

Front Squats
95 x 5
135 x 5
215 x 5
245 x 5
280 x 10
185 x 10 x 3 sets

My schedule is going to be crazy this week, so I combined 2 workouts into 1 tonight. Right now squats are more of a priority to me than deadlifts, so I moved them up. I'm not really sure how I'm going to finish out the week.

Oops. I only got 8 reps with 280, not 10. Too late to edit. My bad.

Tonight was laundry night, so I decided to do 2 sessions on the concept II rower. First session during the wash and 2nd during the dry with a 20 minute break in between.
Session 1: 5000m in 19:39
Session 2: 5000m in 20:38

Tonight's workout.

5/3/1 Round 2
Week 1 Day 3

BB Bench Press
95 x 8
135 x 5
155 x 5
175 x 5
205 x 11
165 x 10, 10, 8
155 x 10, 8

Seated Row
100 x 10
150 x 10
180 x 10 x 4 sets

Pallof Press
80 x 10 each side x 2 sets

I finished with some pushdowns and curls.

I was happy with my bench tonight. I actually adjusted the numbers a little because the I felt like the weights were too low in round 1.

Tomorrow I'm off to the summit. I would like to try to fit in my deadlift workout to finish off the week, but we'll see.

Good stuff. I've been meaning to try the pallof press, might do them on my next round.

I also liked your photos from the summit!

Thanks, now I just have to get back into my routine. I haven't been in the gym since before the summit, and my work schedule this week is making it very difficult to get back.

Pallof presses are awesome. You really should give them a try.

Late, but I was getting a picture of trying to row and read. I can just imagine the motion sickness I could get from that.

Paul, I don't know how I missed reading your log until now, but I imagine it's because I spent almost all my time trying to stay caught up on the logs in the challenge section. It was so nice to meet you and Kristen at the summit. Great pictures!

It was great to meet you too and I will definitely be checking out your training log as well. I'm glad you liked the pics, I had a lot of fun taking them.

Thanks for stopping by Tom. I know what you mean about the time at the summit. There were just so many people to talk to and so little time. There is always next year.

Thanks for stopping by, it was really nice meeting you too. There are so many people logging now, and with 3 different sub-forums it's becoming harder and harder to keep up. I discovered so many new logs after returning from the summit.

Hey look, a workout!
I have not lifted since before the summit, so it felt great to finally get back into the gym. This week I have been working out of a branch office in NJ and driving 60 miles each way to work. It took me 2 hours to get home today and after sitting in all of that traffic I needed to lift some weight to get out my frustration.

5/3/1 Round 2
Week 1 Final Workout
...finally

Deadlift
135 x 6
185 x 5
205 x 5
245 x 5
275 x 9

Cleans
135 x 6
155 x 6
175 x 5
185 x 4

Back Extensions
BW x 10
+10 x 10 x 3 sets

That's it. No time for anything else.

I did full squat cleans tonight. It's amazing how much more energy they take than power cleans. There was no way I was getting 10 reps.

Full squat clean vs power cleans -- when I do Oly, a clean means I go into an ATG front squat as I catch the bar... is that what you mean? Would a power clean involve a lot less depth in the squat???

power clean = slight knee bend at the catch rather than full squat for the catch

Thanks Lisa.

I normally do full ATG front squats too, but if I know I have front squats coming up in one of my next workouts I like to give my legs a little break.

Tonight's workout.
5/3/1 Round 2
Week 2 workout 1

Military Press
45 x 10
95 x 6
115 x 3
135 x 3
145 x 10
105 x 10 x 4 sets

Pull Downs
100 x 10
170 x 10 x 2 sets
160 x 8
140 x 10
120 x 10

I finished with a slow 5000m on the rower. I didn't have it today to maintain my usual pace and finished in 22:30. I think all of the pulling between yesterday and today tired my out for the row.

Presses felt really good tonight, but I did turn the last few reps in the sets of 10 into push presses as I got tired.

Pulldowns started out strong, but I hit a wall and had to keep dropping the weight in the later sets.

Hi Paul--

It's taking me a while to get to comment on all the logs of all the cool people I met at the summit. Like Karen, I've spent most of my time in the Challenge log section, so I've missed a lot. Anyway, I just wanted to say how nice it was to meet you and Kristen. You are such a nice couple and the pictures are great. Thank you for taking all those pictures.

Today's Workout
5/3/1 Round 2
Week 2 workout 2

Front Squats
95 x 5
135 x 5
225 x 3
265 x 3
295 x 6 (3+3)
225 x 10 x 3 sets
185 x 10 x 2 sets

Face Pull
80 x 10
120 x 10 x 2 sets

Pallof Press(10 second isometric holds)
80 x 3 each side x 2 sets

Because of my screwed up schedule last week, I deadlifted only a few days ago. I thought it would be best to finish up this round with squats ahead of deads. I may switch back to the correct order during the deload week.

Squats felt strong today and I managed to complete 3 full sets of 10 with 225 before I had to drop the weight down. My legs were seriously pumped by the end of this one.

This was my first time trying static holds on the pallof presses and they were brutal. I really felt these more than the dynamic version.

I'd be happy with those numbers for back squats, let alone front squats. Nice work.

Thanks guys. I have spent a lot of time getting my front squat up to where it is today.
