Thanks guys, this is a big one for me
One of the guys there thought I was good for mid 3's if I just tighten up a few things on my form. The weights feel heavy as hell in my hands but are not hard to push so who knows. I am built to bench for sure, thick chest and pretty short arms just need to practace some more and put some more weight on the bar.

That really only helps if you're playing the technicalities for powerlifting, right? Do you want to win a contest, say you can bench x amount or just be really, really strong? The first two can be helped by fattening up. Not the 3rd.

a lot of time fat=better leverage. If you've ever seen a tall skinny person squat, they generally do better when they add some weight. They can bounce out of the bottom of a squat by using their gut. A bigger waist/gut= a stronger base for squatting.
Now, i'm not saying that getting fat means you get strong, but there is some truth in gaining weight, can greatly improve leverages, and make one stronger.

that's possible. On the bench, though. A belly is like a stack of boards. You can lift more weight because it can't go lower. But, two guys who lift the same weight, one fat and one slim, the slimmer one is stronger, because he's actually lifting that weight through a greater range of motion.

I want both! haha. I want to be strong as hell and be able to destroy at powerlifting comps. Even if I wanted to arch.. I am not flexible what so ever haha. Truth be told its a mystery to me how I can full squat / snatch and such without (at least to much) mobility problems. I cant even come close to touching my toes or scratching most of my back.
Ill worry about little shit like this more when I add another 100lbs onto my bench and start to go from 'decent gym rat bench' to 'decent powerlifting bench'

True. He is stronger.. but we are splitting hairs now imo.
I dont buy that whole 'adding fat for leverage' unless we are talking elite lifters here. Skinny o-lifters can squat just fine. In order to 'bounce off your gut' you would need a pretty damn big gut.. I mean, some skinny 170lbs 6 feet tall kid is just always going to have a shitty squat no matter what way you put it haha.

*lol* I didn't like it the last time I had it a couple of weeks ago. I'd never hurt so bad in my life. All my Co-workers were wondering what was wrong with me.
Oh well, we'll see what havoc today's little Max Rep adventure has on tomorrow. Although, I've already had a couple times where I was having problems walking this morning.

haha its a small price to pay. I walk about a mile or maybe a bit more to school/work most days ive laid in a field on the way here for upwards of a half hour because of lowerbody pain after high rep squats
People that know us think we are crazy, but the people who dont think we are insane.
