One of the guys there thought I was good for mid 3's if I just tighten up a few things on my form. The weights feel heavy as hell in my hands but are not hard to push so who knows. I am built to bench for sure, thick chest and pretty short arms just need to practace some more and put some more weight on the bar.
That really only helps if you're playing the technicalities for powerlifting, right? Do you want to win a contest, say you can bench x amount or just be really, really strong? The first two can be helped by fattening up. Not the 3rd.

a lot of time fat=better leverage. If you've ever seen a tall skinny person squat, they generally do better when they add some weight. They can bounce out of the bottom of a squat by using their gut. A bigger waist/gut= a stronger base for squatting.
Now, i'm not saying that getting fat means you get strong, but there is some truth in gaining weight, can greatly improve leverages, and make one stronger.

that's possible. On the bench, though. A belly is like a stack of boards. You can lift more weight because it can't go lower. But, two guys who lift the same weight, one fat and one slim, the slimmer one is stronger, because he's actually lifting that weight through a greater range of motion.
I want both! haha. I want to be strong as hell and be able to destroy at powerlifting comps. Even if I wanted to arch.. I am not flexible what so ever haha. Truth be told its a mystery to me how I can full squat / snatch and such without (at least to much) mobility problems. I cant even come close to touching my toes or scratching most of my back.
Ill worry about little shit like this more when I add another 100lbs onto my bench and start to go from 'decent gym rat bench' to 'decent powerlifting bench'

True. He is stronger.. but we are splitting hairs now imo.
I dont buy that whole 'adding fat for leverage' unless we are talking elite lifters here. Skinny o-lifters can squat just fine. In order to 'bounce off your gut' you would need a pretty damn big gut.. I mean, some skinny 170lbs 6 feet tall kid is just always going to have a shitty squat no matter what way you put it haha.

Good.
Wanna touch your toes? Bet I can get you there. Won't even hurt.
I have a feeling what you describe will be me tomorrow morning.

*lol* I didn't like it the last time I had it a couple of weeks ago. I'd never hurt so bad in my life. All my Co-workers were wondering what was wrong with me.
Oh well, we'll see what havoc today's little Max Rep adventure has on tomorrow. Although, I've already had a couple times where I was having problems walking this morning.

haha its a small price to pay. I walk about a mile or maybe a bit more to school/work most days ive laid in a field on the way here for upwards of a half hour because of lowerbody pain after high rep squats
People that know us think we are crazy, but the people who dont think we are insane.
*snort* yesterday I told my BF that if I am working on getting into shape, he's going to have to get into shape too. He's agreeable to that. I think he's got a nice shape, but he's going to have to build. Last time he worked out with me, he couldn't hardly walk for a week

Both are as strong as each other, one has to do more work due to the increased ROM.

arch over a foamroller or roll around on a stability ball (lay on it and try to keep your whole back touching the ball and roll) before you lift to loosen up the back
I was meaning that the larger guy wasn't strong enough for the full range of motion.
And, maybe the thinner guy also does board presses with a higher weight, too. So, now he's stronger.
how do you know that the larger guy isn't strong enough for the full ROM? His full ROM is to his belly. Just because it's a shorter stroke than someone who's tall and skinny doesn't mean that he's stronger or weaker.
That would be like saying a taller person is stronger on benching doing 225 while a short guy does 275. You would say he is stronger because his ROM is more? No, he's stronger because he moves more weight according to his body type.
Certain people's lifts are more than others, and if they are moving more weight (according to fed rules, or whatever rules you set up, etc), they are stronger in the movement

In this case, I was only going off of your initial joke about getting fatter so you wouldn't have to lift as far and therefore be able to lift more weight.

But, you can't rely on rules to say who's stronger, just who lifted more weight and kept to the rules. Hopefully, the strongest one actually wins.

Kind of a 'meh' workout. Speed work is kind of boring, usefull, yes for sure.. but I find it hard an not rewarding at times. Girlfriend is going nuts with the PRs lately.. Forget what it was exactly, but she hit a front squat pr for 6 reps today, I think it was like 140lbs but I could be wrong. Shes gonna pass me on those!!
This gym sucks when school is on, everyone goes in and curls db's between classes I swear haha. Or this kid in a BB.com wifebeater flexing in the changeroom at a whooping 145lbs I bet..
