thanks guys! I feel like an old man. I'm already getting gray hair!!!!

i was going to workout today, but i'm still pretty sore from the start of the week, so i'm going to hit it hard tomorrow and take today off.

I was originally planning on working out this morning for my class. Unfortunately, there is a bunch of grab assing that goes on in that class. We got 1 exercise done in 50 minutes. The teacher is basically letting us design our own program in groups.

Not to sound conceded, but i know much more than my other two group members. One kid is cool, the other believes in burnout sets, and spotting someone on a lat pulldown machine.

Today, we were doing lat pulldowns. My final set, i put it on like 160 or so, which isn't that much weight, and was going for 6-8 reps. The guy who spots goes, "err, i think that's too much weight." then i completed them, and he goes, "you need to bring the bar all the way down." The teacher walks by and goes, "show me how you did them." So i did, and he said, "no... that's fine."

It's funny to see the male ego in the gym. Someone who can't do x amount of weight says that it's too heavy for another person? Or, they're using incorrect form when this guy looks like he's having a convulsion trying to get the weight down. Retarded.

They want to do pyramiding shit too for the rep ranges. I'm planning on just saying, that's fine, but i'll be doing 5 reps and under on the bench, and then just get my regular workouts done in the morning there.

/end bday rant.

1-23-09:
Recovering from yesterday. Drank 1 pitcher of beer (64oz) + shot of crown in around an hours time.

Jerks:
45x2
47.5x2
55x2
60x2
67.5x2 (148x2)

Push Presses:
50x5
55x5
60x4 (133x4)

Front Squats (testing out hip):
40x5
50x3
60x3
67.5x2
70x1
72.5x1
80x1 (176x1) bar left the shoulders

Face Pulls: 3x10

Things felt a little slow today, but decent, all things considered. Front squats felt good for how long it's been since i've done them.

I'll be getting my hip and other imbalances evaluated at Mike Robertson and Bill Hartman's place in 2 weeks.

1-26-09:

Front Squats:
144x3
155x3
166x3

DB Bulgarian Split Squats:
bwx8
+20sx6x2

Leg Curls

That's it. Tired and gym was close to closing. Front squats felt pretty good, all things considered. My best is only 175x5, so it looks like even not squatting for a long time, i didn't lose much.

I have another workout at school tomorrow.

Hey, that's great that you're getting your hip checked out! I think once you figure out the problem and address the imbalances, you'll be skwattin' like a freak in no time.

1-27-09 (at school)

CG Bench:
up to
155x3
175x3

Dips: 2 sets
Rolling DB Extensions: 3x12
One Arm Rows: 3 sets
Seated Rows: 2 sets
Pushdowns: 2 sets

Ok workout. I will probably just bench higher reps at school (8-10 reps), because the competition bench racks are all messed up. There are 3 settings on the rack, the second is way too short as i'm unracking from a 1/2 ROM, and the highest is just slightly too high to try and rack with heavy weight.

Not only that, but i don't trust the guys i lift with, because their hand offs are really pretty awful. They lift it off, then just let go right away... no easing off when they release.

Oh well, i never bench higher reps, so at least i'll probably see a little bit of strength gain from it, and a little change of pace. I'll still press heavy another day of the week.

Hey, it's finespun! get it right!

OK, so story from class today since i have free time.

The dude who's one of my lifting partners STINKS. and it's not stink like from sweating... he stinks before he starts working out. I don't know if he decided not to shower today, but i'm tempted to give him a stick of deodorant, or one of those pine air fresheners for cars to hang around his neck.

To make matters worse, he wants a spot on everything. Seriously. Like he was doing a bench, and i spotted him, the correct way. The way where you give them a little help on the lift, but they still need to do the work. Well, he does like 5 reps, and i go to help him rack it, but he says he wants another, even though the 5th was slow. So he takes another, and gets stapled to his chest. i give him a little lift off and he's all "NOOO TAKE IT!!!111" Then he tells me when that happens next time, to just take it. I want to tell him that i'm not going to row weights off of him when he's being stupid.

So anyway, he wants a spot on everything. Seriously. After bench, he did some dips, and he said, "you know how to spot me on these right?"

NOT KIDDING. I gave him this look And said, "ummmm.. just don't go to failure." Then he goes to skull crushers. Guess what he says next, "you know how to spot me on these, right?"

Seriously? A spot on bench or heavy squats i can understand. But on dips and skull crushers? And, he was spotting the other dude on our group on lat pulldowns last time.

I think being in that gym is lowering my testosterone levels... but at least Spotty McGee gives me good stories to tell people.

Ha, I just read this in Jim Wendler's log, seems appropriate

Quote:
For the commercial gym goer

The next time someone asks you to spot them (this is always on the bench press) and they need an assist on EVERY rep here is what I want you to do:

Instead of saying, "It's all you," keep saying stuff like, "This is mostly me," or "I'll get that for you." People that need spots or handoffs all the time are tiring. And weak.

If you're too finespun to dole out BO insults, you can always rub a little vick's vaporub on your upper lip. Voila! Can't smell shyte other than the menthol. Works in the morgue, too.

this might be a solution. Plus, next time i'm in the morgue, it'll work well. Smelly McSpotme will probably wonder why i always have a cold.

It can be like that scene in Silence of the Lambs where they are getting ready to examine Buffalo Bill's latest victim and they all put the Vics-type rub under their noses.

SEATTLE — Starbucks is reporting that its profit dropped 69 percent in its fiscal first quarter and it plans to close more stores and cut more jobs.
The company says it will close 300 underperforming stores in addition to the 600 it already planned to close in the U.S.
Uh oh!

Not your store, I trust?

HOPEFULLY not. I have heard that starbucks is in backrupty court, but didn't file yet? Not sure if that's true or not.

We're a store that's licensed, but we're kinda like a franchise in the sense that the grocery store pays starbucks to have it in the store. We have something like 20 grocery stores in our area with probably 1/2 having starbucks, and they recently closed one at another location. One positive is that our store is one of the higher performing stores, even though it's not that busy. Plus, i think if we close, my job is still secure at the grocery store since i get paid through them.

I think starbucks will be closing company stores around us, because they have way more money invested in their stores than ours. For example, we're a pretty small town, but have 3 free standing starbucks in our area. 2 on the side where i work (one directly across the street), plus one in barnes and nobel and one in target.
