im going to pre-order this bitch.. you may as well give up!
Look at exactly what Frank said he was going to pre-order. I was simply joking that I could find "bitches" for free in my younger days.

I'm going to stop posting dumb jokes in your training log if you won't laugh at them.

5/30/08:

Jerk:
150x1
160x1
171xthis was real close. Not sure if i locked it out or not, but i'll say no. I've gotten 177 a week before vacation, so it's coming back.
145x5
135x4

Back Squats:
177x5
199x3
210x3 (this might be a pr?)
177x8

first time back squatting since march. Then i did 180x5x3.

these were rough, and my legs are toasted. I'm looking forward to focusing on a bigger squat when this contest is over.

going through some old posts on marunde's board b/c i'm bored. Here are a few good posts that Jesse made:

Quote:
I like to keep my grip training simple. here's a few peices of advise from me-

-always work 'grip' into every exercise.
-double overhand deads untill it gets too heavy, then supinate one hand.
-don't put chalk on till you need it.
-Use thick bars for all kinds of stuff that you usually woulnd't- curls, tri presses, overhead presses, and even CHINS!!
-use a variety of tools for holding onto while performing pullups; towels, thick bars, eagle loops from ironmind.com and my favorite CHINS WHILE HOLDING #3 grippers! I use rope to tie 2 grippers to the chin bar, grab em and chin!
-don't be afraid to feel ALOT of discomfort in your hands and forarms while performing exercises like rows, upright rows, hammer curls, powercleans, stiff leg deadlifts etc.
-NO STRAPS! if you can't hold on to it, why bother lifting it? in the real world you cant stop to put straps on when you are moving your couch or whatever. If you can deadlift 600 pounds with straps on and 550 without, you're a 550 pound deadlifter.
Jess
Quote:
we do seated DB cleans on mondays after incline presses. we power snatch on tue before squatting. traps get worked during lat work on wed and on thur we do heavy powercleans, kettle bell, and other misc pulling exercises. of course traps are worked again on saturdays with farmers, conans, stones, etc.

hmmm... back or shoulder, it's a much needed muscle!

Jesse
Quote:
Q:i did leg presses today for the first time in over a year. i am thinking it'll be a good way to improve leg strength on my days when i deadlift first. what do you guys think of leg presses?

A:squat dude. squat, squat and more squats. for a guy with your height you will gain more from developing a solid squat than any other movement.

leg presses are for bodybuilders. great movement, does what it's supposed to. I beleive you are a strongman correct? train like one!

by the way, where you been? haven't seen you around much lately. glad you're back!

Jesse

Q:Jesse, I've always based my ab work on hanging abs, squats, overheads and events. You got me thinking I might or need to add in intense core cycles when you mentioned kettlebells. I've been thinking of purchasing a few, could you talk about the routine you and Sarge are doing that focus's on core. Thanks again, your site has made a huge difference in my training.

A:Matt, you know how me and Sarge do it, real simple. Pain=gain...

all done one handed first one arm then the other with your weight of choice. no breaks, no pauses, keep going till you puke...

max pull ups
snatchx10
clean and press x10
high pull x10
bent row x10

we do this after our regular training session. so far I've made it through 3 times with a 50 pounder and 2 times with a 65 pounder...

yea i know. not enough time squatting!

5-31-08 (yesterday):
Yoke:
130x2 runs
220x2
310x2
400x1
470x30ft
500x30ft (pr for distance)

Yoke pickups+holds:
520x1
540x1

then i did another run of 500 for around 15-20ft

then i ushered in my friends wedding. it was a blast. they will make a great couple. The food and open bar were awesome, and it was probably the most fun i've had at a wedding.

Nice yoke work!

A guy at my gym yesterday had a nice set of grips that fit over the bar. Great way to turn anything into a thick bar. He got them from TYLERGRIP - A Revolution in Strength Training
I may order a set for myself to add to my grip training.

It's about time you decided to work on your squat. Then maybe this log will actually live up to its name.
