i squatted 315 a few weeks ago...

the squats will shoot up, i just haven't been back squatting that long compared to how often i've been doing gms b/c of the hip issue. That, and squats suck for me.

I think you just counted wrong.

Seriously though, I squat in the same general vicinity as you, and I can only GM 200x6.

Either your squat is way higher than you think it is (and your pull, I would guess) or.. I don't know what else.

ps im very jelous about your saftey squat bar. I want one. The cambered bar is pretty good, but some more variety would be great.

well, my back's (lat) been bothering me, so i'm kind of limited in what i can do. Deadlifting hurts, rowing hurts, and i found out today that GMs or overhead presses hurt. the only thing that doesn't really hurt is benching, and squatting doesn't feel too bad.

i think GMs are great for developing overall strength. Not much carryover for the squat, but i think it works well for deadlifts.

SSB is a lovely bar.

12-3-07:

Close Grip Bench:
135x6
145x5
145x5
easy breezy.

DB Floor Press (paused):
40x10
50x8x2

Ultra Ultra Light one arm rows: 2 sets
DB Curls: 2 sets
Pushdowns: 2 sets

Bike: 12 minutes (BORING)

Lat/side is still sore. I've been loading up on liniment and asprins to reduce any inflammation. I might have to see Chad's ART guy to see if he can get me fixed up. Being injured is lame.

HUH?!

Frankie, umm...

Maybe you're not doing them right? Or not doing them for long enough. Or something. But goodmornings have got to be one of the best movements for your squat/deadlift. That's my opinion anyway. When my goodmorning goes up, the other two go up. Actually, my squat moreso than my dead, which is the opposite of what alco said. weird.

Anyway. Give em another chance

Alco - stop being such a wussyman.

I dunno matthew, im not the only one who thinks this way

sam bird squatted 1000+lbs at 198 and doesnt do them, actually ive heard him say that he tried with 1 or 2 plates and it hurt like hell. Lots of elite lifters dont really use them all that much it seems.

They may have a purpose, and ive done them in the past, actually, now looking back ive done 315 for some reps. But, ill gain more on my squat and dead by doing squats and deads for now.

like i said, i think they work well. Remember, if you're doing strongman, you're not doing a lot of squatting. But GMs or RDLs are basically the same form that you pick up a stone in. But, i used it as a way to work around my lat, so i don't have the tugging on it like i would if i pulled, or even did a RDL.

You do get well squatting by squatting, pressing by pressing, and pulling by pulling. I totally agree. But when you can squat, or can't pull, you can get strong doing other things.

they are similar ho. If you don't agree, what do you think is? discuss!

i dunno what i did to my lat. I injured my shoulder blade about 6 months ago on a yoke when it slid down my back. It got better. But now, i sometimes get some pain on my side by my ribs (serratus), and then sometimes by my lat. It feels like i get knots in there, and it gets sore sometimes. I think it's overhead pressing that's been irritating it the most, but i'm not sure. Any idea what it is? I've been doing some light stretching, real light db rows to get some blood flow, and then lots of liniment and asprins. It's feeling a lot better today, and i think if it stays on this course, it should be all good in a few weeks.

Any idea what it is?

I think a stone is more like a SLDL than anything else. Your upper back (and for the inflexible lower as well) will be rounded and you just have to do a SLDL till it gets to your thighs. Youre not sitting back or anything as in an RDL.

As far as your lat. I dont know. I do know that when my lat is sore or if my serratus is acting up, its usually just some inflamed tissue from tense muscles. ART fixes that shit in one go.

alright, SLDL, RDL, whatever. haha

yea, i might hit up the art guy. i didn't do any OHP today, and it feels real good to rest it. I'll try it out next week maybe with some OHP's or pulls, and see how it feels.

Buffalo bar squats (bar counted as 45):
205x1
225x1
245x1 (really sloppy. called it here)
185x3

GHRs:
3 or 4 sets

DB Stability ball presses:
40x15
45x12
30x20

Hammer Curls: 2 sets
Lunges: 1 set
Tons of real light rows and upper back work. I'm slowly pushing the weight up on these.

No overhead pressing or pulling today. The lat/side area feels really good, and pain free today, and it felt the same yesterday. Like i said, i'm going to pull or press lightly next week, and see how it feels.

hopefully someday i can be as big as this cow.
