10-12-07:

SSB Squats (bar as 45lbs):
165x3x3
185x3x2

Deadlifts:
340x1
370x1
385xmiss (missed around 2" from lockout. I'll get this in 2-3 weeks. I'm thinking trap bar next week)
375x1 (5lb pr. pretty easy)
315x5

Axle Press:
135x3x3

Face Pulls: 4 sets

Sam told me the 370 was real fast, and to try 385. If it had been 380, i would have gotten it. I kept pulling for probably 10 seconds, but couldn't lock it out. It will fall in a few weeks though.

Trap bar will help, the yoke squat is a good idea. How much is your empty yoke? At Grahams its 460 empty. Thats quite fun to walk with the first time around :p

It's weird. i can rack pull 405, but can't lockout 380? I think i'll only use rack pulls for reps, and do straight pulls like trap bar, or something for main lifts.

my empty yoke is only 130 i think. The one at Chad's is 330 empty i think. It's ridiculous too, the cross bar is a thick bar, so it makes it very uncomfortable.

yea, it was a crazy pull. i strained on the thing for 10 seconds. I guess it's good that i was still able to drop down and hit a pr pretty easy. I'm pretty sure if my glutes fired a little better, i would have gotten it as well.

Rack pulls dont mimick the effect of regular deads.. thats why I like stiff leg rack pulls much better (or at least semi stiff leg).

What shoes where you wearing? I cant lock out anything without my chucks for some reason. Also, if you point your toes out a few degrees lock becomes easier for most.

Nice PR though, I see 405 comming pretty soon.

i was pulling w/ chucks on.

i've only done rack pulls like twice in the past year. So, i think i just need to keep doing what i'm doing. It seems to be working just doing things like pulls off the floor for reps, and then going to singles for a few weeks, etc.

Yeah thats good shit. Start walking with that shit. Squats will feel so much easier afterwards. Even holding in front of you like a front squat will rock any BS from FSing.

you mean walk with it in a front squat position? or in a zercher position?

No, just holding it, or squatting it as you put it. Either will desensitize you to heavy weights and make youre current max attempts feel light from the beginning, giving you more confidence in the lift and letting you use more energy through the sticking point.

Its little secrets like these as to why I cannot keep a log :ninja:

Like I said earlier, rack pulls are almost useless for the deadlift ive found. But.. stiff leg rack pulls help tons as it mimicks the position of the deadlift much better

i actually am planning on competing in the next strongman contest that is held at my level. I train w/ Chad Coy's crew in kokomo once a week.

once my strength is up some, i can see myself doing some PLing competitions as well, but strongman comes first.

10-19-07:

Thick Bar Overhead+chains:
105x3
115x1x2

Some Overhead reverse band lockouts

Trap Bar Deads:
315x3
335x1
365x1
385x1 (30lb pr)

SSB Squats:
185x5 (felt easy. had at least 8 in me. I'm going to up the weight next week)

Then we did some strongman stuff next door:

-Did one run w/ 115 farmers that felt extremely light and easy. This is all we did b/c chad and nick started loading up the bars, so we did some tire flips.
-2 flips w/ 400 something pound tire. First time flipping, so i need to do more flipping and work on form
-1 run w/ 360lb yoke (empty)
-1 run w/ 410lb yoke

all felt pretty easy and fast. the empty yoke actually felt harder than 410. Neither felt terribly bad though.

First strongman, then PL, then Strongman again...Make up your mind already (I'm really not one to be talking I suppose!)

I thought the empty yoke felt weird too. When we added weight, that kept it from swinging as much, which is why I think a loaded yoke feels easier.

ha! i think it was mainly because i had to get used to that "hey, i'm a yoke, and i'm crushing your spine" feeling.

This is why in order to warm up with a yoke, you should just do some stands with it and practice bracing and absorbing the weight. Do it for like 20 sec or so for a few times, then hit the walk (resting in between stands).

Get a heavier tire, 400 is a fucking small tire.

Stop alluding to people that you are doing OL.

alright i'll give the warmup a try.

they have a bunch of tires there. i think it's 4 something, but it's a massive tire. I have a hard time flipping it. i need more form work with it. They have a few other ones, i know one's a massive 800 pound tire.

how am i alluding to ppl that i'm doing olifting? haha. people around here think it, but i don't know where they get that from, considering i've never done a clean or snatch in training

Dude, 400 is like a Tonka truck tire. You need at least a 600 to "look" like a decent tire.

I dont know, but you are. Stop trying to be part of my sport.

well, once i master the 400, i'll move to 600 or more. i was too spent after all the other work to really work the tire. My bis are really sore today, so, i think i was using too much arm, and not driving into it well.

dude, i'll master that snatch.

10-23-07:

Bench:
155x2
165x2x2
145x5

DB NG bench:
2 sets

Some banded prehab shoulder work.

Quck workout. Bench felt pretty easy for not having benched full range in like 5 months! I think i really just need to bring up my press in all forms: flat, incline, overhead, floor, dips, etc etc. I need to get my tris stronger and everything.
