Also, for those O-lifters out there, and people interested.

I will be attending the Australian Weightlifting Olympic Trials this Saturday, should be good, all the top o-lifters of Australia will be there. Will be an excellent thing to go and see.

Not that I know who any of them are... but I'll find out

Squat and bench are both looking good.

I just looked up H-rolls because I had no idea what they were and it looks like i have another movement to add to my shoulder maintenance work.

What about my deadlift?

Bit frustrated with last week though, as even though I hit a couple of PR's I'm pretty sure I was weaker than the day I pulled 462lbs(good for a double I was on that day). Every single week of my training I have felt stronger, or equally as strong as the previous week. This is the first time that did not happen!

Hopefully I'll be good tomorrow and pull more than 440lbs for doubles, no doubt I'll still get the 440lbs even if I'm not feeling 100%, but before last week I was planning to double 462lbs in this last session.

Minimum deadlift goal is 484lbs, I'd like to get closer to 506lbs though, but I believe I will get 484, and will be disappointed if I don't!

Your post got me thinking a bit more about my lifts(thanks), so I'll post some more:

Squat: I don't really know lol, with the equipment which I haven't maxed out in I'm not exactly sure what's going to happen. I'll squat 418lbs for sure, my goal is still 200kgs(440lbs), a nice number.

Bench Press: I'm pretty nervous about this one, with this super tight shirt, I don't know shirt technique well enough yet. I could touch 120kg last week, and have pressed it out before(in a looser shirt), but it wasn't pretty. If I get the groove perfect, I know 120kg will absolutely fly, but if 120kg is the lightest weight I can touch, it's a bit risky to open on.

Tim said if I can't get 115kg to touch(253lbs) this Saturday, I might use one of his brand new size 42 shirts(As opposed to my 40 shirt). If I can touch 115kg in my shirt though, I know I can press it out, infact I think I can press 115kg raw touch and go(I'll back that up after the comp).

I guess I shouldn't be nervous as I have a backup shirt, and using the size bigger probably wont bring my bench number down much at all, as the looser shirt will technically give me less, but be easier to use, and less chance of fucking up.

I've benched 120kg before, so I have to improve on that in the comp. 125kg(275) is what I want now. Yes this is much lower than 308lbs I have in my sig, but when I learn the shirt and increase my lockout strength, my bench will improve more rapidly than my squat/dead. Plus the fact that I barely benched with a barbell the entire last year, my bench is going up. 308lbs in september.

Haha yeah Tim came in today and wanted to try something new he read about, some top bencher whose name I have completely forgotten recommended it in an article, I'll ask about it again and post a link if I remember hah! They seem like a pretty good exercise, when he described them I thought it was like a front raise, but it's not.

have you tried wetting the big shirt? that makes me able to touch with like 10 less lbs i figure.

also, ride the collar higher if you want it to touch easier.. if you want more out of the shirt, jack the thing down.

Yeah they have had me wetting the seems. Also when I unrack the bar, the collar is pretty much choking me(okay not really, but its touching my neck), once I bring the bar down its fine though.

I'm definitely not jacking the shirt though lol!

But the first time I used it I couldn't touch 120kg, second time I could, this will be the 3rd time, if I can touch 115kg, I can open on it.

Not gonna worry about jacking the shirt for a little while lol...

Okay I just realised you said wetting the "big" shirt(which I won't have any trouble touching in). Not sure why you'd ask this, I tried a ripped up stretched and loose 42 about a month ago, and then my current tight 40. I haven't tried the brand new 42 that will be available for me to use if the 40 doesn't work out well this sat.

my mind is just blurry this morning, dont wet the big shirt.. you got what i meant.

You are like a week out so dont change much.. but in the future, try some heavy 1 breath tripples to break in the shirt and make it easier to touch. They are a real bitch though.

I jacked my katana last bench session.. touching 380lbs was hard as hell and felt like it took like 3 minutes to touch. I think I can jack it enough so 400lbs wont touch! and this shirt is ipf legal! I need a stronger lockout.

You know before you said that, I had temporarily forgotten that I was "de-jacking" the shirt so I could touch something. Once I get my lockout strength up, and jack the shirt(actually put a belt on rofl), then I'll start to get more out of it(going back to our discussion before).

Sounds like I need to replace my Titan F6 for a Katana! Ah well, next meet. My current meet is only 3 weeks away.

I won't lie to you guys, all this talk about gear makes me want to suit up.

I have to leave this log...

Hahahaha Matthew, we allready know you'll suit up soon enough, its all good...

And yeah, I've heard Katana's are impossible to touch anything in hahaha, much thicker material. They last alot longer too because of that.

i touched 140kg at my meet without wetting it down.. no idea how.. the shirt was riding real high, my weight was down, and everything is different in a meet.. usually it takes right around 160kg (157.5 ive touched quite a few times now)

matthew - gear up if you can. Squat gear is easy to use, bench is hard. Try find around a sz 50 (or even 48) metal pro squatter if you want to go double ply, soo easy to use and very comfy and huge carryover.

My bench is going to shoot up like crazy in my next meet hah. If I get strong enough, Jack the shirt and everything. 300+ is mine hahahahhaahahahha

My raw bench is feeling really strong right now, 253 touch and go is what I feel I can get Once I get my shirt working for me, then it will all be sweet.

If I could get 330 by the years end, that would be the absolute most enjoyable lift I could get all year hah

I want to do a meet on sep 13, and nov 29(go for some records).

Squat gear is awesome yeah, got 35kg from it so far, want to get another 15kg this meet, more for my next meet!

Dude, that's nothing
With my old gear I got 70kg on my squat and that was with a suit that was way too big (but it was damn cheap and I didn't have any money).
I haven't been able to hit competition depth with my new suit so who knows what's that gonna be ofcourse you don't have briefs since you lift in the IPF. But I still think I can get at least 50kg out of it (Ipf style) the first time I'll hit depth.

Yeah, so 35kg + 15kg that I want = 50kg carryover for what I want to squat in this meet

I might get another few kgs out of it in my second and third meet too.

28/05/08 Wednesday

Deadlift Day

Deadlift
---suit on---
143lbs x 6
242lbs x 4
---straps up---
341lbs x 2
---belt on---
407lbs x 1 owww, belt too low, dug in alot, gonna have a bruise there!
440lbs x 2 PR
451lbs x 2 PR

Speed Squats
44lbs x 5
143lbs x 3
159.5lbs x 3(4 sets)

Glute-ham Raises
BW x 8(3 sets)

Comments:
-Final deadlift session was a decent one, I probably would have been good for 462x2, but that extra 11lbs on my last work set wouldn't make a difference to how I do in the meet anyway, so I decided to save myself a bit
-Second rep of the 451 got a bit lazy, form wasn't as good as the first, but still okay
-Back was good during deadlifts, could feel slight stiffness/soreness at the bottom of the squats though for the first couple of sets.
-Glute-ham raises are good
-9.5 days out from the meet, benching on Saturday, squats on Sunday and then that's it

Thanks,

Tonight went pretty well. Last couple of weeks have knocked my confidence with the deadlift a bit, about 5-10kgs actually haha, but it's better now hah!

Some videos from the meet I watched in April:

Wim Van Weenen - pulls an IPF world record deadlift in the over 70 100kg class!!! 237.5kg!!!(about 524 pounds). It's unofficial though as there weren't the right referees there or some technicality like that.

Nathan Baxter does the biggest IPF Bench Press ever in Australia of 262.5kg(578 pounds):

Thanks,

I actually don't feel that I'm getting anything! Probably the belt gives me more than the suit haha!

Even though I don't feel any help. I'm sure to be getting a little bit, maybe 5kg out of the belt and suit combined!

Suits don't really give much to the deadlift anyway, especially conventional. And I only wear single ply gear.

Yeah that's a possibility I guess since I don't feel the gear does much. Might start deadlifting belt only. Not for this meet though.

most suits do very little for the conventional deadlift. Even with the best deadlift suit, 50lbs would be a great carryover.

I just do deadlifts in my squat suit because i find i can stay tighter in it. I dont even puts the straps up (in my avatar pic i had the straps sooo loose that they where not even doing anything.. just cant have them down at a meet).

I went to the Australian Weightlifting Olympic Trials today, after my bench press session. Some very impressive lifts.

Saw a 222kg(489lbs) Clean and Jerk, which was a really awesome lift to watch!!!

07/06/08 Saturday

Bench Press Day

Bench Press

---shirt on(42 titan f6)---
143lbs x 3 no touch
187lbs x 3 no touch
220lbs x 1
---belt on, jacked shirt---
242lbs x F no touch
---loosen belt(while still on bench, then went for it again right after)---
242lbs x 1
---belt tight, shirt not fully jacked---
264lbs x F , miss-groove, tried it again immediately after and got it.
264lbs x 1 equal with my pr
---shirt off---
187lbs x 6 raw, 187lbs is a twig now

Board Press(2 board) raw
242lbs x 3

Comments:
-Got into a looser shirt, brand new 42 f6 from Tim, which I'll use for this meet. I'm not quite ready to use the 40 yet, but next comp I will.
-Jacking the shirt makes a huge difference! We did it, and 242 just hung there, and wouldn't move any lower, I was expecting it to touch but it wouldn't, and I just went everywhere trying to pull it down lol!
-First attempt at 264lbs i fucked it up, got it a fair way up, but then ti wouldn't move, as I didn't have my elbows tucked enough, was pressing it down, rather than towards my head
-Second attempy I flicked my elbows under and pressed it back, and got it. Wasn't exactly easy, but if I do it right I can do a bit more.
-Will open on 112.5kg(247.5), I'd like to get a PR for the bench press, so 121kg-125kg(266-275) is likely for the 3rd attempt I think.
-Weighed myself on accurate scales this morning, 83.45kg in my jocks and socks. Fully dehydrated I'll make the 82.5kg class easy, I just have to stop drinking 18-24 hours before the meet - that's going to be fun...
-Squats tomorrow, final training session before meet. 1 week out!
