Good to see you upped that speed bench
Have you used Creatine before?, I found it made know noticeable difference for me.
I didn't up the speed bench, I took the bands off and added more weight, I think its roughly the same, more tension at the bottom though.
Yeah I have used Creatine before, I'm pretty sure it did make a difference, but I can't be 100% sure. I know what it's supposed to do, and I think it does that quite well.
Deadlift
143lbs x 6
242lbs x 4
308lbs x 2
341lbs x 6(3 sets) PR
Speed Squats
143lbs x 3
176lbs x 3(8 sets)
Dumbbell Rows
90lbs x 10(3 sets) PR
Comments:
-Used the deadlift slippers today, good shit - just like barefoot deadlifting
-Pulls went well tonight, they felt heavier than before(because it is heavier), but not hard. This is the first time I have done more than one rep at this weight (I somehow got my pull to 440 without ever touching anything over 325)
-Next weeks pulls: 363lbs for 4x4
-I brought my nike frees to the gym today, as I was going to use the slippers for deadlifting I thought it would be good to use these for other stuff - but I forgot about speed squats...
-So big mistake, squatting in nike frees is fucking shithouse!
-PR on the DB rows too which is cool, but I have never really done DB rows much, so I should be able to pile on the weight a bit at first
-I also got the Whey today
2 more PR's! Very nice progression on the pulls. The DB rows don't surprise me based on how much you row with a barbell. You'll be throwing around the 100's in no time.
I was going to say that if you're used to squatting in chucks, why didn't you just squat in your little slippers? I can't because I need a heel, like you said.

I've made some huge mistakes, but they were necessary, because without them I wouldn't have learned anything.

Because I left the slippers on the other side of the gym, and was too lazy to go and get them!

it's easier to reach depth when you have a heel and your flexibility isn't there. Not many ppl PLing squat in shoes with a heel though. Goggins is the only one that comes to mind. The reason being (at least in my experience), that when you squat in oly shoes, you don't open the hips NEARLY as much as with chucks. This is mainly because of the narrower stance, where you take a wide stance w/ PLing. When you take a wide stance, and open the hips, you can reach depth easier.
When i squat in oly shoes, and i try to open the hips more than i should, it irritates the side of my leg because you're not supposed to press out on the sides of an oly shoe. The heels are there to put the weight on the heel, and the transference of power (or something like that).
All this said, i hate squatting or doing anything in nike frees except for my everyday walking around shoes. I went to Chad's, and tried pulling in nike frees (even though they're supposed to be like barefoot walking), and was falling forward because of the heel on them. He told me to take the shoes off and pull in socks, and it worked like a charm.
Good pulls!

I dont like squatting in chucks, everytime i do my form is all messed up (and its not a depth issue, i can easily make depth with barefeet and no barbell). Maybe i need more practice in them, i do like them for deadlifts (even sumo). But, I like my frees better for squats (and bench..).

Hmmmm, I think the frees aren't nearly stable enough compared to chucks.

Thanks Yeah the the only thing I use my frees for usually is walking around normally, first time I brought them to the gym - never again.
As I said I think squatting with a heel means you sorta don't have to squat as low, but I'll try to find out more.
i have these adidas (they don't make them anymore ):
i really like these adidas though. I don't know, but i'm hoping they'll go on clearance after the 2008 olympics b/c they should have a newer line out (not sure though)...

Bench Press(pinkys on rings, close-er grip than usual)
44lbs x 12
110lbs x 6
143lbs x 4
187lbs x 2
187lbs x 4(4 sets)
Comments:
-Took it easy today didn't do much, had to work in the crappy narrow rack, so had to take a close-er grip than usual which is shitty
-Mostly just helped spotting and loading the bar, last bench session for those competing next week
-Was supposed to get into a tight-er shirt(still loose one), a size 44 titan something, probably a fury. But one of the other guys whos competing next weekend forgot his shirt, so he took the one I was gonna use oh well, next time hah. I hope I can get on lots of good gear for the meet and get alot out of it
why would you want oly shoes for a PL squat?? Your knees shouldn't be comming forward much at all in a PL squat so there is really no need for a big heal. A little is fine (ie frees) but i wouldn't want to squat heavy in an oly shoe.
frees are a great squatting shoe imo once you learn how to use them. Ive tried many different combos and I keep comming back to the frees, it may be because my stance isn't as wide as lots of the westside style guys.. who knows.
Mmmm... well the frees feel way to unstable for me, chucks are good, so I might stick with them, but I still might switch to oly shoes. The heel on oly shoes doesn't looks thaaat big? I'll ask my coach what he thinks about shoes to squat in hah
I have the Do Wins and the Adidas. I like the Adidas better, but the Do Wins are cheap and do the job. If you're only squatting in them you might was well save a little money right? I have the blue suede Do Wins, they're comfortable and look okay.
I'll spend more if they are better hah, I'll only be wearing them at the gym, so they will last years.
Haven't got an email back on whether they ship those to Australia though, I know a few PL'ers around here use the adidas ones, might ask where they got them from.
Squat
44lbs x 10
110lbs x 6
176lbs x 4
220lbs x 2
280.5lbs x 4(4 sets) PR
Bent-over Rows
209lbs x 6
209lbs x 10
209lbs x 8(3 sets)
Comments:
-Squats felt strong today, I felt like I could probably have done 6's instead of 4's, I think I'm definitely stronger than before, probably close to that 352lb squat which I missed a few weeks ago.
-Rows were strong too, Might up the weight again soon(220 I think) and start with 5's or 6's
