Default how to find a gym with 140 plus dumbells

ok, ive been lifting at home for a while. i have the basics, a powerrack, 600 pounds of weights, heavy duty bench coc grippers etc. i have always made the most progress on dumbell work however. my dumbells at home only go to about 115(plate loaded) and i want to be able to work my way up to 150s. i know most gyms dont go past 100s or 120s, but i know that some gyms go up to 200s. any advice on what you guys have done to find gyms with heavy dumbells.?

i live in central nj also.

Phone and ask around.

But, an easier option may just be to make a heavier dumbell. You could even duct tape on some 25's on each side and have and 150+lbs DB. Ive seen this done in many powerlifting gyms.

I made a long dumbbell handle for home. A precut peice of black iron pipe and hose clamps. You need four clamps: two to keep the plates away from your hands and two to clamp down the plates once you slide them on.

Take a plate to the hardware store to find the size pipe that works for you. Otherwise you'll get home and the pipe will be too big around or something.

You can get real collars, if it's important enough. I just keep using the hose clamps.

what im doing right now is taking 14 inch spinlock handles and putting oly and standard plates on a standard handle(oly plates are thinner so i can fit more with out being dangerous). funny thing is this is pretty dangerous i always fear itll fall on my head, which is why with the exception of yesterday i took a year off of dumbell rpessing. BUT I CANT BE WITHOUT IT ANY LONGER I LOVE DBS.

in all honesty id like to just find a gym with pre made 130s at least. even though i work out at home, a friend of mine is letting me workout on fridays at the NYSC. they only go up to 120s though

have any of you ever said to the owners like...im a pler if you buy 4 more sets of dbs ill join for 2 years or something?

Can't you buy some for home for less than 2 years of a gym membership?

You can still go to the gym for free, just do your dbs at home.

If you have access to a gym with 120s, I would just do what Frank said and duct tape a 5lb or 10lb plate on each end.

I want this DB. I cant do DB rows currently as the DBs at my gym are only up to 150lbs, and i need about 200 I figure unless i want to constantly do > 20 reps.

I can't find one anywhere. I'll have to try the duck tape method.

Try searching for a gym here.

Also, EliteFTS is working on a gym directory, but I don't think it's available to view yet.
