Default Bar torque on squat

Starting Strength says the bar is higher for olympic lifters. This, I think makes their backs be straighter, which relaxes some of the hamstrings and hip adductors and makes for more quad dominant and ultimately "weaker" squat, right?

What is the point of doing it this way. I'm trying to figure which will be better for sports specific training like football or vertical leap in volleyball.

I put the bar lower on my back and my squat must of went up 40 pounds.

Any thoughts on this yall?

I ride the bar really high on my traps, if i put it low I end up going more of a good morning. I think the best placement is the one thats most comfortible for athletes. For a powerlifter, the best placement is the one that suits your squat style better and lets you use more weight in the end.

A low bar really let's me stretch my hamstrings and hip adductors, but I wonder what is better for vertical leap. A low bar, high bar back squat, or a front squat. Hmmm

Thanks for the reply

That's a good question. I like high bar squats because they are more quad dominant but after a while they start to hurt my knees so I will switch back to low bar and my knees start feeling better almost instantly. I'm tall so that may have something to do with it. As far as the jumping motion I think the low bar squat may be best because of the emphasis on back extension and posterior chain involvement but that's just a guess.

A high bar squat doesn't relax your hamstrings, it just stretches them less because your torso is more upright/pelvis is less anteriorly tilted.
Your hamstrings shouldn't be relaxed in any kind of squat.

Ok ^^ thanks.

If my trunk was very strong, I could do high bar squats with the same angle as the low bar couldn't I?

If you lean to far forward on a high bar squat..the bar is going to rest on your neck. not fun.
