I saw a guy using straps and a mixed grip today.
I didn't really understand that.

He was doing shrugs with 225.

I personally have never seen a torn bicep from deadlifting, but I have heard of it. From what I have heard it's mainly from guys trying to jerk the weight off the floor instead of getting tight first and then pressing the feet through the floor.

Again, I have never actually seen it. Saw a torn pec once, that was gut wrenching.

I did train a guy who tore his bicep doing a chin up. I think he jumped up to the bar, and when he hit the bottom of the lift ripped the bicep.
