He is the national coach and provides training services to people, especially in the Melbourne University Powerlifting team, but he also provides them to others if asked. He definately has a winning personality. In fact, he exemplifies everything that is wrong with the IPF.

2 lifters currently ey? How would you know this and who are they?
I see all, and hear all. Omnipotent, or at least I have potent powers...

I know the name of one of them, but they are listed under the IPF drug testing list.

Just go to the Melbourne Uni Blog and see what he states himself... (not the only place he states that, but its easily found)

  • Dedicated strength training every Monday, Thursday and Friday night under the guidance and tutelage of Australia's head national coach, Robert Wilks.
Most likely what he means is that he is the 'coach' that coaches lifters at world meets etc.

Is this the guy I hear that apparently went overseas, bought some cheap dodgy supplements, and then got done because the supplements had traces of steroids in them? The "Mr Saion" guy mentioned in the recent press release. Not exactly current though. Didn't know he was a melb uni lifter!

Also, do you live in Australia? Or lift in PA? You must either live here, or have lived here I'm guessing to know much about what goes on here. I'm still new here, and I'm trying to find out more about the politics of PA, and why alot of people have a problem with wilks lol!

95 more lbs to go on the squat. (just hit 755)

bench im going to be well above 450.

deadift - haven't tested, i expect im around 630-640 now. 650 should fall in october.

10 more months until time is up. may go 220, im 223lbs today, so i would have to loose about 7lbs for me to cut to 198 without to much pain. OR i need to get to 235 and stop being inbetween weight classes.

How is everyone going with these?

I hit my total and deadlift goal for September, got close on the squat and bench.

On track to hit my end of year goals, might fall a bit short of the bench goal though.

I'm with you. Once I hit my 500lb DL goal I just don't have the drive to push for raw 1RM strength anymore. I still work out hard, but I haven't done anything less than 5 reps in awhile. I'm doing more weight for sets of 5 and 8s than I have ever done though, so who knows where my true 1 RM is now :p I've also been lifting for what I call endurance strength. I jump rope between each weight set now b/c I learned in BJJ that while I was decently strong I was gassed way too quickly. What good is all this strength if I can't apply it for a 5 minute round?

Anyways my goals are all sport specific now. Submit my BJJ teacher - just once lol, land a new invert on the wakeboard, etc...

I just want all of my lifts back to where they used to be before life happened. I'm with you PMDL, trying to put the pieces of my body back together.

My goals (all 5lbs higher than previous PRs)

    All raw lifts:
    Deadlift 605
    Bench 430
Squats 630*3 (belt on this one)
C/J and Snatch close to Olympic standards
    Semi-Supinated Grip Pullup BWT+155

And still be able to run a mile.

Would like to get faster in the 100 also and improve my vertical.

Would be nice if my manhood would magically enlarge, but I'm not holding my breath on that one.

Oddly enough it was box squats and a bench shirt that led to my demise...and a lack of conditioning and flexibility/mobility during training.

Good stuff. Have you checked out training info from Joel at 8weeksout.com? He's the S&C guy training Sakurai, Pulver, Barnett, Spencer Fisher etc... he has interesting thoughts on training mma/bjj specific qualities.

A couple years back like an idiot I kept on strength specific work for too long without changing protocols because I was hitting alot of PRs and paid for it in injuries. I haven't done back squats since, nor much max pulling, but am stronger in many respects, have better work capacity, more gas when surfing, biking etc... and best of all better mobility and am mostly pain free. Regular ART and Chiro has been essential in this as well.

Well, of course. You're supposed to bench when you wear a bench shirt, not box squat.

My short-term goals are to reach a 1000lbs total on the 3 main lifts. I predict when that happens my lifts will be around...

    Bench: 275
    Squat: 335
    Deadlift: 400

My long term goals are to make the 300-400-500 club. From there, hell I don't know, I'll try for the 400-500-600 club. I believe I might actually stop (at my own will) when I reach these numbers for the lifts. Then from there work on getting to 400-500-600 club at a 5RM. After that, I don't know, I might just stop at my own will. I'd be a strong SOB.
