Video Requests
Im going to start taking some demo vids with my coach narrating and I hope to put a write-up in the vid description to supplement when I put them on youtube. We're going to be doing some oly drills that I feel 1) are very useful for learning parts of the lift, 2) many people learning the lifts could benefit from, 3) people probably dont know about, and 4) are usually done very incorrectly.
This project will take a couple of weeks due to our time constraints, but we'll be starting next week so I was wondering if theres anything in particular that anyone wants to see. So far on the list I have:
Dead hang snatch
Dead hang clean
Jerk balance
Drop lunge
High hang snatch pull
Flip Clean
Drop Clean
Snatch Balance vs Drop Snatch
We may do more technical shit later on like being able to point out weight distribution at various parts of the lifts (kinda like what I do when I critique still shots in people's logs), but thats way down the road.
So, any suggestions? Or is there anything that you feel needs to be explained better?

Thanks for doing this.
I'd like to see a few very basic things that even I could do without worrying about f'ing up.
Jump Shrugs come to mind. Am I doing them right? Who knows... But, I'm told that they are perhaps the safest basic lift for someone who want to experience some of the benefits of Oly lifting but isn't ready to devote time and practice to getting the more complicated stuff down pat.
Other simple and safe movements would be nice to see, as well. If overhead squats and power snatches fit that bill, please try to include some of those lifts.

The thing about a jump shrug is that it has a lot of variations on how to do it. When I think jump shrug, I think of a high hang pull rather than literally jumping as Ive seen some people do. Im more apt to do something like this:
YouTube - Shrug & Jump (SN grip)
rather than this:
YouTube - Jump Shrug 10on5 off X3

Anything in particular about those two lifts? You can find tons of examples on youtube, Im trying to get stuff that isnt seen often, often just done poorly, or add something that isnt already out there.

When I do the writeups and depending on how my coach narrates, movements will be designated as which are better for warmups, for drills, for heavy work, etc.
What in particular do you want to see on boxes or the rack?

Jerksd, maybe the top of the pull--you know, that part where I let my arms try to play, too, LOL... seriously, anything that you want to do, I'm going to appreciate it.

a video on assistance work that helps the lifts. Not necessarily drop snatches, but other things that benefit along the lines of unilateral work, etc. Anything you guys do that's different than the norm.

No. There may be good ones out there, but half the time, when someone posts a "good" video, people start pointing out all the bad things about the form. I figured if you're going for one-stop-shopping...
I'd be just as happy to see examples of existing good videos. They don't all have to be you.

I'd greatly appreciate any introductory lifts leading up to some of the standard O-lifts. I'll mention the jump shrug as well, only because I know of no others.
I'm very interested in learning some explosive movements, but don't want to get in over my head.

That second "jump shrug" is really funny. Looking forward to seeing these videos Manny.

snatch balance vs drop snatch.. I thought they were the same.. start with bar on back, snatch grip, give it a little push and drop under in a squat and catch it.. Is the difference how much you drop under? like if you catch it in a full squat or do more of a wide grip BTN push press and then overhead squat it?

Ok my coach took a couple of clips and merged them all into one big file so now Im educating myself with WMM and I came up with a rough draft. I think it came out ok, Ill definately post more clips and maybe merge some later, but Id like to get a critique of the vid for what it is:
YouTube - Snatch Diagnostics
I may retape at my other training spot where the music isnt as loud and the angles are better.

i would say to either record the voice separately and merge the two together, or to film in a quieter spot.
you should try and make a multiple part series where you go step by step through the lifts, and some flaws. I think starting positions are big. You never really see a step by step analysis of the lifts on youtube.
Mark Rip has some good videos on youtube where he goes over the press, deadlifts, etc.
Also, maybe say why on some of these things. Like why is it important to keep the shoulders back, or when to bend the arms, etc.
I think the polished version will be good.

It will be option 2 because I have no idea how to do the former.

Well we're going from the top down. Everyone will have a different start position as well so theres no point in doing something so individual.

Because youll fuck up your pull.

No no no.
This is how you do a snatch.
