yea, i mean a power rack would be just as fitting as a partner in terms of spotting. The only benefit a partner has is to push you to get the reps.
his reasoning for not using a flat bench was b/c he believes that is causes many more pec tears than incline benching. I think it's kind of valid. I never liked benching, probably b/c i suck at it, but i like incline benching a lot more. Of course, there are some that believe that certain "assistance" can cause an increase in pec tears too, but there's really no solid evidence to this, i don't think.
