My statement still stands.

This is one of the best reasons to avoid these lifts: your form will get picked apart on the Internet. God forbid someone just try to get a workout and not be entertaining, I guess.

Nice try

Many people post their vids up on this forum, some for critique, some not. If you are trying to be a guru and show off your coaching skills or OL knowledge, then they will be subject to criticism. This isnt t-rag, so even the 'experts' are questioned.

Dont like it? Dont act like you know more than you do.

Fair enough but then how about making a distinction between form that will get you hurt and form that is perhaps ugly but not dangerous?

Many of the Crossfit clips shows form that borders on dangerous to me because they go too fast and have no progression. But Staley's clip shows form I wouldn't consider dangerous, just perhaps not perfect.

When every single instance of less-than-perfect form is slammed equally, then lessens the argument IMO.

Because this isnt about Staley vs XF. This is about Staley's comment and then his subsequent 'shock' that he might not know as much as he thinks re: OL. If youre going to sell your coaching, be a guru, and believe you know more than you do, then you need to back it up. The videos do not.

You need to re-read this thread.

I watched these videos that were posted by Staley.
fficeffice" />
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v =69YEG...layer_embedded

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v =Jl0WrV74Iik

And I sent them to my former Coach and go to guy when it comes to anything Olympic Weightlifting, David Pursley

Pursley is a member of Olympic Weightlifting Hall of Fame, IWF World Masters Championships 2004 Official, and has officiated at all the World Championships and World Junior Championships in Olympic Weightlifting this century.

Regarding the first video: comment from Youtube
Mr. Staley, I believe you mislabeled this video. It should be: Reverse Curl From Floor. Keep up the good work.” I would have to agree. This is typically the way most people perform the movement. I don’t think this evidence for Olifts being easy.

Pursley comments on the videos:

“Dear Coach Hale,

I have watched both videos completely.

I cannot think of anything nice to say.

Have you ever heard me speechless?

In medicine we have an adage: “First, do no harm.”

I apply the same to the sport of Olympic weightlifting.”

The comments in this post are not meant to insult the trainees in the videos. After all Olympic Weightlifting is hard and contrary to what Staley implied they are relatively hard to coach in most cases. I have been trying to Olift for many many years and my technique is no better than alright.

Coach Hale
