A guy shows up at the Canadian-US border with a bloody chainsaw, a hatchet, a homemade sword, and brass knuckles. Border patrol confiscates his weapons, fingerprints him, and lets him into the US. Click Here The Full Story
Jeez, and WE get blamed for security issues at our common border?? Go figure.

I saw this article this morning. He freakin cut a dude's head off, left him in the kitchen, stabbed the guys wife, and was picked up walking his pyshco ass down the highway with blood all over him.
I agree Fish, pretty stable indeed!

You left out the part of the head being in a pillow case under the kitchen table.
Perhaps they saw that he was Canadian and saw nothing unusual
Man thats a piercing gaze. Hes got pretty good traps on him, but that dead fish on his head has got to go.
Man I cant believe the excuses given for this guy. There wouldve been hell to pay if he had murdered someone here.

He's a naturalised US citizen
Yes, naturalized, as in, "born in Canada."

Interestingly enough, if you read the entire article the US immigration officer said that they kept him for 2 hours, tried to find a reason to detaion him, buit since he was a US citizen, they could not refuse him entry and had no legal means to detain him.
US protections of rights of citizens are jealously guarded. There is after the presumption of innocence.

If he was dark and swarthy, and had a name like Hamid Abdella, weapons or not, they would have arrested his ass.

Because they don't have crime labs at the border and couldn't determine what it was, blood, rust paint, whatever. If they could determine it was blood, they couldn't determine if it was human or if he was some crazy cow butcher.

If he was dark and swarthy, and had a name like Hamid Abdella, weapons or not, they would have arrested his ass.
Good call JP. JP and I have talked about this issue at length and he is right. I know a number of naturalized US citizens, some citizens for over 35 years, who were held for anywhere from 4 to 8 hours upon returning from travel overseas, apparently because they fit a stereotype. No questioning, just rudely told to 'sit down and shut up' and when they asked why they were told, 'you have no rights here.' When finally cleared and allowed entry, when some of them have asked what they can do to rectify this situation so that it does not occur again, they were told 'pursuing what just happened will make it much worse for you - better not" in a very menacing tone. Some of these people are relatively old - in their 70s! Welcome to the post-9/11 America where, citizen or not, you too can get treated like shit if you are the wrong skin color or emigrated from the wrong country. If this behavior is any indication, in the eyes of the government, all citizens are not created equal.
Being inconvenienced for the sake of national security is one thing - usually apologies follow with errors - but being mistreated, threatened without cause, and subjected to conditions no one should is something that should not occur.
Personally I believe this egregious and extremely ineffective profiling (I know the people this occured to well) just shows how much grasping at straws our government is doing to try to keep us safe. It's apparent they either have absolutely no idea what to look for or, hopefully not, are pursuing a systematized pattern of intimidation and discrimination. Neither option is very reassuring.
