I think it is great when artists use their fame and soapboxes for something worthwhile. As an antidote to Adam's post on Carl Lewis' video, here's a video that I just watched from Sarah McLachlan, one of my favorite voices, and her video for one of my favorite songs of her's.
I don't get too emotional, but watching kids in poverty really gets to me - I've got two young ones of my own and God has blessed us in so many ways. The video reminded me of that and put a big lump in my throat. Seeing 4 year olds sleeping alone outside under stairwells.... it's painful.
The summary is that she shot the video for $15, and took the balance of the $150,000 that a normal video would cost and gave it to relief projects all over the world - for necessities like clean water, food, medicine, and education. And it's amazing just how far such a relatively small amount of money can go - perhaps helping as many as 1 million people. We've been so blessed in the US, we often forget how the majority of the rest of the world lives.
Take a look; I'm not sure if you need to have iTunes to watch it (I do), but hopefully not. Kudos to Sarah for using her fame to highlight humanity's problems.
