I just heard from the head trainer at Golds Gym St. Cloud that I am the newest Personal Trainer on the team. I am pumped. The guy in charge was pretty cool and although they are a bit more into balance training than I would like it seems like a great place to work. Consultations with all new members, no cookie cutter programs for clients, and my favorite - little to no emphasis on machine training.

Fantastic! Nothing is better than having a job that you "like" to do. The best of luck in your new enterprise! If nothing else having free access to the facilities is always nice!
Cward- They didn't have specific qualifications. The gym I am working through has its own certifications but they like when people have outside certs. I got in without one but I am in school for a related field (athletic training). He asked me a lot of questions during the interview in regards to training to find out what I knew. But they didn't have any specific qualifications I had to meet.

Lou, funny thing is Bill's name came up during my interview and I had him listed as a reference. I was really tempted to start name dropping with all of you guys but I never got the chance. The interview would have been so much easier if I could have cited a damn internet Message board as a reference.

I am sure you blew their socks off.
I have thought about trying it part time, but I would have to be trained, I don't know 10th of what you do, so I have a long ways to go if I were to pursue this before I could be effective.
Danny - congrats! Be sure to keep this thread going and let us know how it goes. I know a lot of us (well, a few at least) are thinking or have thought of getting into that industry.
"So I was chatting to Lou Schuler the other day about optimal stimulus for muscle growth v's strength gains, when Bill Hartman brought up the fact that unless the stabilising muscles are strong enough and flexibility allows full range of motion then any stimulus would be sub-optimal. JP, sorry thats Jean-Paul Francoeur, mentioned something about swiss-ball training, but Robert Remedios told him yet again to just use a damn bench. Adam Cambell chimed in to say the next issue of Mens Fitness would have a article by Alwyn Cosgrove addressing all these points and how to apply them in a short but effective training session.
Oh, sorry, I got sidetracked, you were asking if I knew anyone in the industry who could vouch for me?"
