The Q are a race of near-omnipotent, near-omniscient god-like beings from a parallel existence called the Q Continuum. They are largely indifferent to the affairs of the non-Q beings living in normal space... with a few exceptions. The most notable of these is me , Q., who periodically likes to harass the crews of starships and hangs out at JPFitness forums much of the rest of the time.

After mulling over "retort", you chose "refuge"...or was there another word I missed?

Really, you missed your calling as an amateur psychoanalyst. I was trying to remember the correct wording for the oft-said phrase. I mistakenly put in 'retort', which would be equally appropriate, although not the wording in the popular use.
