FOr english i have to do a 4-5 page essay writing about a person who has made at least 3 contributions to society, they have to be different though. I choose Ronald Reagan even though i know nothing about him but now that im looking through some of the information ive gathered on him, it doesnt look like hes done good things for society, Or am i wrong, can soemone correct me?
PLEAAASE TELL ME 3 THINGS REAGAN HAS DONE FOR SOCIETY ORRRR SUGGEST ANOTHER TOPIC.
Hm... He sold arms to S. American death squads and managed to keep from getting arrested, and he quintupled the deficit. I'm sure I can think of some more later, but I have to run.
1. End to war between Egypt and Isreal.
2. Work with habitat for Humanity.
3. Work to bring democratic elections to developing nations (wish he could help the USA).

if you're looking at solely presidents, i've always thought that there were basically 3 presidents that were the most important throughout american history. washington, for leading the creation of this nation, lincoln for saving the nation from splitting, and franklin roosevelt for leading the nation through the worst economic times of the nation, as well as leading them through the worst war in history.
outside of presidents, you could always do some research on martin luther king jr, susan b. anthony (fighting for the right to vote for women), or maybe look at inventors like thomas edison or alexander graham bell.

I was not at all a Reagan fan at the time, but I do believe that his hard-nosed approach to the cold war led to the wall coming down and fall of the soviet empire. Overall, I believe that to have been a good thing.

Don't you mean David Schwimmer? Marcel was really HIS pal.
Dumbass - he referring to "Ed". Reagan was in a feature film with a monkey, 'Bedtime for Bonzo"....not a TV show.
Kaiser, been waiting to call TS a dumbass for some time now and was provided the appropriate moment outside the CE forum. (J/K about the comment)

I usually don't watch lame movies or any movie with LeBlanc in it for that matter so I wouldn't have known.

No, you're not kidding. But that doesn't bother me. I've taken plenty of pot shots at you too but please don't take them personally.

Actually, as I think about it, I think it was Eric Lloyd....sad that I even know that. And Matt LeBlanc is a dumbass. But let's face it, without the pioneering spirit of The Gipper, we wouldn't even be having this discussion. It's terrifying to consider the ramifications...

Hey, I owned a brown suit, and looked pretty damn good in it, too! The women I worked with admired it/me; I believe I got lucky with one of them, so I guess I owe Ronnie for that. Of course, many people would say they also got f**ked because of Reagan.

Yeah, well I _still_ own a brown Hugo Boss and some weave pattern Mezlan's and a matching weave pattern belt and _still_ look good.
OK i did my preliminary thesis and outline on Jimmy Carter but i think i may have to change my topic because only 1 person in each class can have the topic, and im pretty sure someone else has it.
Does anyone know of a political figure that has also been in a war and shtuff like that?
Jimmy Carter was actually quite amazing. You should read his book, "An Hour Before Daylight"... mostly anecdotes of living on a farm in Georgia during the depression, but very hard to set down. You really get a sense of where he built that character he is known for. He was also an engineer on a sub, graduated top in his class at Annapolis.
His first book out of the presidency "Keeping Faith" really woke me up about the whole Iranian Hostage Crisis and the things that went on in the background before Reagan became president.

I'll assume that the obvious ones have been ruled out already (Washington, Lincoln, Jefferson, Roosevelt). Go with President Woodrow Wilson. Here are three contributions:
1. He created the Federal Trade Commission to help regulate businesses and protect consumers through the enforcement of the Sherman Anti-Trust Act.
2. He provided the necessary troops and provisions to defeat Germany in World War I.
3. He created the League of Nations, which did fail, but acted as the precursor and the basic structure for the United Nations.

How about our most underrated President--James K. Polk:
Fulfilled Manifest Destiny for America
Restored the Independent Treasury
Basically beat the Congress into passing every piece of legislation he needed or wanted to get through, with re: to domestic policy.
Interesting fact--the guy was tough: Polk survived a gallstone operation at age 17 without anethesia or antiseptics.
