Do you not think Microsoft should follow the rules of the country it's in? While I'm against all type of censorship, if it's the law, it's the law.

I would imagine everyone who visits these forums does business with China. Many of the computers people are using right now have at least some parts that were made in China. Aren't we as guilty as Microsoft for supporting that country through our business?

personally i don't think so. of course there is some "guilt" if i wear a tshirt manufactured in china, but to compare it to what microsoft is doing is ludicrous.

Maybe yahoo is commie for not allowing Nazi items to be sold in france, too. It is their business decision, if you don't care for them use something else. Like me.

We could go into this, but I guess we'd need to take it to CE.

my intention wasn't to "get into this" with anyone. i posted a link to an article i found disturbing. if you think that someone buying a computer with components manufactured in china is the same as a company proactively shutting down avenues of free speech/dissent then that's ok with me. i just happen to disagree.

Maybe the issue is about what we as a free western country should be pushing onto another country.

Do I agree with having free speech shut down? No. No I don't.

Do I believe a western corporation should attempt to force the values of it's parent country in a different country? Nope, I can't buy that either.

Microsoft's primary goal is to make money. If they can make money in China they will. If there two options are to make money or lose all access to that country by disobeying it's laws and requests of it's government, well then I suspect their choice is going to be to obey the laws of the nation they are in, even if those laws make little sense to us.

However as castufari said, if you do not agree with a companies policies, do not use their software.

Og.
