I started playing an acoustic nylon guitar, since I have the time now that school is out for the semester. I have a book and I'm going for the self-teach method, but I also have a DVD that's somewhat helpful.
I am a percussionist, also was a former drum major. My first instrument was the sax, still love it. I played alto and saprano, tried tenor but it was wayyyy too big. I also can play flute, sax and flute are basically the same fingerings.
I dabbled with piano... would love to play it more often. I bought a trumpet a few years ago, it is so hard. I am also doing the self teaching method. Good LUCK!

I wouldn't mind leanring piano one day too. Oy.
Do a search on the board and you will find that JP is quite the classical guitarist. As a matter of fact, he played at my wedding.
I'm one of those guys that hangs around musicians (a drummer)

Glad to know I'm not the only former band buddy here. The tenor was too big? Is the baritone taller than you?

I play flute (no joke here, ok? I had enough all my life )
I didn't realized that in this country most flute playes in HS and college ar female.
I played in the militay band back in my country for three years...and i play the "piccolo", so, you can imagine the teasing I had to endure for all those long three years. (see, only guys, 40 of us, and me, the piccolo player, what a disgrace!)My retaliation was when we performed "The Stars and The Stripes Forever" (sorry if I'm not spellin' this right)and I was the one getting all the applauses (sp?) (gosh! how I need a spell check in this site...hurry JP!!!!)
Although I'm not a professional musician, I still play for fun. I just performed a full recital few months back (Music by J.S. Bach, Mozart, Chopin, and others). I will play another one in May (Mozart Flute and Harp Concerto, Bach Suite no. 2, and others).
when everyhing it's ready, I will send invitations.
i played the sax too....started with alto. Then the school had enough money to buy the tenor and baritone sax. I tried them for a while, but i played the alto the best. I still play it a little, but in HS i didnt want to waste my elective on band. Plus the teacher is gay.

I played the alto sax in high school and college. Now my niece has my horn and is playing in middle school band. The sax was a pretty good investment. I took up the banjo in high school, dixie land band, and later played a little bluegrass, mostly when alcohol was involved.
The high percentage of sax players in this forum is obviously a sign of higher intelligence.
i can play bass and drums a bit, but i was mainly a guitarist. unfortunately, ever since i started getting a paycheck for djing.... i haven't been playing much at all the past few years. it's kind of depressing how out of practice i'm in.
some of my guitars:
-1962/63 fender jaguar
-early 90's les paul standard
-mid 60's danelectro/silvertone amp in case
-epiphone es335
-hagstrom III
and a handful of wacky clunkers or metal guitars still at my parent's house.
korg poly6 and a sampler too for creating some out there sounds.
new year's resolution is to start playing a bit after my hand/fingers heal a bit from an accident a couple of weeks ago.

that's one of the "metal" guitars i still have at my parents! it's kind of a shady version though; my guitar teacher worked for the kramer factory in neptune and took all the parts and had the custom shop put it together. then he sold it to me for i think $300. not sure how "legit" it was, but i thought i was the shit.
this is going back at least 15 years ago.
just one volume knob... no tone control. rock!

I started playing the cello in 4th grade. It go ran over by the lady who drove me to school.
Switched to the trumpet in 6th grade and did that until 9th grade when sports overtook practice time.
In college I bought a Martin acoustic and taught myself how to limp along like I can actually play. Something about a great acoustic makes everybody sound good.
I bought a banjo 4 years ago with the intention of taking a few lessons. Try finding banjo lessons in Milwaukee... It hasn't gotten much playtime.
I also have a handful of harmonicas that get some playtime, and a drawerful of spoons that are oncall for a bluegrass jam.

Hey T, I still play the recorder too, I just didn't know it can count as an instrument at this forum!!!
just kidding....I think it's because of the recorder that I play flute and picoolo. I started with the recorder long time ago when I was a kid. last year the wife of a friend of mine gave me one for X-mas. That was a nice.
