Just wondering if any of you guys are superstitious when it comes to lifting?
I have a few like I always were the same shoes on leg day but never any other day. Another one I have is if I start off lifting with a hat on, I can't take it off. That one is cus a little while back I took my hat of during a set and pulled a muscle...yea it's dumb most aren't all superstitions
I don't have any superstitions in the gym, but in everyday life I have a few. Most are like the one you said about taking the hat off. An example would be when I take a shower, as I'm getting out I push the thing to get the water to come out the tap instead of the showerhead, then I turn the water off, then I wipe down the doors with the squeegee, then I step out, etc. When I do it in a different order I feel 'off' the rest of the day. Same with getting dressed, I get my pants and socks on, deodorize, then I put on my chain, put my keys, wallet, pencil, etc. in my pockets, then I put my shirt(s) on. If I do it in a different order I notice something bad happens that day. I know it makes no sense to most of you but that's the way my mind works. Once other people are around I lose that kind of thinking though, which is lucky because otherwise I think I would start to worry people.

And major action will certainly make you feel a bit uncomfortable, which is absolutely fine. You've gotta get excited about feeling uncomfortable, you've gotta love feeling slightly uncomfortable, because you know that you're stepping outside the boundaries that you used to create.

I've made some huge mistakes, but they were necessary, because without them I wouldn't have learned anything.

Dude if I don't have my workout notebook or MP3 player my workout will suck. Big time. I also go through the same motions before the lift for all my big lifts. I kind of pull up my shirt sleeves a bit, shake my hands out and talk to the bar. I do it every time. If I don't I can't get into the lift.

Same here...Little things that seem to make or break focus. Always chalking, the way I approach the bench or cage, music.
It seems to keep the devil away
When I played baseball, I had a ton! Not washing stuff, can't step on any chalk, yada yada yada. Can't really think of any in the gym. I have to visualize every lift, but that's just part of pumping myself up and making sure I get it done...

I tug on my shorts/sweats the same way after I set my feet for a deadlift. I crack my neck to the left and shake out my right arm before a squat. I think it's really just a matter of focus and appropriate preparation (my right shoulder's always been ify, so...)
When ever I am putting plates on the bar or whatever, it the have to be facing in. I got it from my old lifting parter and kind of just took it over as my own. I also do the same stretching routine before I start lifting. I also listen to the same CD/songs (now that I have an MP3 Player), if it's not those songs it's I don't get pumped enough....
When I hit the last set of any exercise, especially when I'm struggling, I have to play "Call to Arms" by Manowar. If I don't, I don't get as many reps out.

I can relate. I used to play a lot of touranment golf and golfers are known to have some crazy superstitions(as I did ). I think some of that behavior transfered to the weight room.
I grind my hands into the bar like throttling a motorcycle but using both hands for a while and stare at the ground and concentrate on any negative energy directed at me in the past, use it as energy to lift, get done lifting, boom, converted to positive energy.
How many of you use mp3 players? I have never used one but I am considering it...they just let the news channel blare on the tv at my gym.
