The required two-line description at the top of my proposal reads this:
"A thirty-minute, original fiction narrative shot on digital video. The story is about a young woman who is faced with mental illness and the question of her husband’s fidelity."
The requirements include:
-the screenplay
-the theoretical basis for shooting style
-a research paper (in my particular case, on adult regression into childhood and on films/books on similar topics)
-weekly log (from the first day the screenplay is begun to the last day of editing)
-A proposed budget (followed by the actual budget at the end)
-actor/location clearances (through SAG and the city of Boston)
-description of intended audience and potential markets
-annotated bibliograhpy of all sources (films, books, websites, etc.)
-formally conducted auditions (with videotape as proof)
-fully drawn storyboards
-complete shooting and editing schedule
-copyright clearances on music/imported images (this won't concern me because there are no imported images and my brother is writing the score)
...and of course the rehearsing, shooting and editing which, while not evaluated as you do it, is obviously the most important and gruelling part. The finished product isn't judged on the quality/talent involved, but on the fact that the finished product is complete and matches the project decribed in pre-proproduction.
I might be leaving something out but those are the key elements
It's quite a ride!!!
