my dad invested heavy in a sweet 8 track player..
needless to say he didn't believe the CD hype...
fool me once, shame on you
fool me twice, won't get fooled again! as the LC*C likes to say!
I actually had one for some reason. I had Billy Joel's "Glass Houses" and the Superman soundtrack. I think I was about 10 at the time (so about 1987)...?
We have a bunch of records in the house too. A lot of Diana Ross, and Barry Manilow. Needless to say, my parents were big music buffs back in the day and refuse to switch to cds.

I remember being pissed because I got Styx for "Renegade" and the song was between track 3 and track 4. I'd be rocking and the it would stop, click, and resume. I believe that album (you remember those, too, right?) had a large part in the doom of 8-tracks.
I got a great 8 track player for my car (1957 Chevy Bel Air, white over blue) when I graduated from Marine Corps Boot Camp. The first one was stolen within 9 months. First 8 tracks purchased were Lou Reed and Foghat.
I remember seeing one when I was 5 (im 23) but never saw it work. Looked like an Atari game at the time

Whoever invented the 8-track was not a music lover. Whoever heard of a song being broken in the middle. How irritating. They are lucky all the artists didn't get together and cut off their nads.
My first 8-track was Kiss "Rock and Roll Over." I also had the Grease soundtrack when it came out. Like Fish mentioned with his beloved Styx 8-track, if I remember correctly the Grease 8-track split a song. I think it was between the 2nd and 3rd tracks?

Oh, man, I just got here!
YOU BET I remember those! I installed several players under the seat of my vehicles (first one was a '65 Mustang... 6 banger, unfortunately) along with the speakers and everything. When they screwed up like got too tight, they were "fun" to unwind and put back together. I had a bunch of 'em but the only one that comes to mind was Guess Who.
IF ONLY I still had my 8 tracks AND my '65 Mustang!

...AND that HAIR! [/QB]
The 8 tracks preceeded THAT hair by about nine years! We had a dress code at my high school. Couldn't touch the collar or the ears or you got sent home... which I did a time or two.
